I wouldn’t consider Necromancy a beginner-friendly art, myself.
I don’t have The Devil’s Idol, but it also looks somewhat advanced. It requires pre-work on your protections and possibly psychic senses, and if you have not yet started on those, you can run afoul of parasites and not even know they’re around.
If you were not bounding around so many different books, just picked ONE and worked it cover to cover, you would have less of an issue with different books having different tool requirements.
Why not try a grimoire that uses no tools at all? Like Corwin Hargrove’s Goetia Pathworking?
