Essential oils have been shat on due to Multi level marketing schemes and I agree that the thing they claim to fix are very scammy.
But i think they do have a purpose in spirituality.
To get a bottle of rose oil or jasmine oil, 100s of flowers must be sacrificed.
Rose oil is the essense of 100s of flowers.
And flowers are very important as offerings for all religions.
Even in maoshan taoism we have a meditation on flowers that has been used as a main meditation towards developing psychic powers.
Well they could be used for aromatherapy, which might help as an offering If you’ve run out of incense something. In Robert Bruces psychic self-defense book he recommends using them to make your room positive and resistant to negative beings. Not sure if that actually works but it’s a possibility I guess
You sound like you might have been around young living. (I love their cleaning products). You can make you own oils in your own home and does not take 100s of roses. I make mine with a dozen and it’s a very large mason jar that is yield.
Essential oils is a form of herbalism. herbalism when done by someone who has studied it extensively
Also, they work very well in spell work and offerings. Almost all of my spell work has some kind of oil or herb aspect to it.
Incense has never been something I use all that much. To me, stuff like that to me isn’t a sacrifice, rather it’s something which can be a sign of welcoming, being enticing, respect, anything like that.
Personally I like using perfumes because it feels closer and more intimate. There’s a bit of a history with perfumes being associated with attracting spirits, especially djinn (though I don’t think it’s limited to that at all).
If oils are more your thing, go for it. It’s the gesture and intent behind whatever is used has far greater power than the precise tools.
Don’t forget the search to see where people have been using these in spell and ritual work before: including an important warning as some oils are poisonous and can harm pets.
