Honey is sugar.
Because it rarely contains bacteria that can cause a severe sickness in babies that can lead to death.
Honey is very strengthening and antibiotic and antifungal, which is why itâs in a lot of natural remedies and poultices (wound dressings as a natural topical antibiotic). Itâs used in hot toddies for treating colds most often in the west.
It keeps so well, there has been edible honey found in ancient Egyptian tombs.
(And the scientists that found it ate some, thatâs how they knew lol)
Magickally, Rudolph Steiner had a lot to say about both beekeeping and honey, and for him he felt the location the honey came from was important. He used honey as a treatment for children with emotional issues from the great war, a spoonful a day.
Re diabetes, which is a metabolic disease where you are no longer very insulin sensitive, honey has a much lower glycemic index than sugar and is preferable, also itâs 20 times sweeter than sugar so you need less of it. All simple carbohydrates, including white bread, white rice, potatoes etc., spike the glucose and that spike is whatâs best avoided, because the diabetics system doesnât handle them well. So you can be intelligent about it and a half teaspoon of honey, but in a coffee not on bread, would probably be better than the slice of bread alone.
Both contain glucose, however sugar is pure refined glucose, where honey is composed primarily of water and two sugars: fructose and glucose. It also contains trace amounts of enzymes, amino acids, B vitamins, vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants.
(Obviously thatâs if itâs honey, not flavoured, colored sugar syrup with a bit of honey in it, as cheap brands cheat to make more money this way. In the US you can buy âRawâ Honey from small producers that is actually honey.)
The sugar we use in the kitchen (sucrose) is made out of both glucose and fructose, too, isnât it.
@Mulberry @anon10524665 idnât know that. Thanks for the info.
Yes, youâre correct, table sugar is sucrose.
Thatâs different than glucose and fructose, those are smaller molecules.
The body breaks carbs of all sizes down to glucose is use them in carbohydrate based metabolism pathways. If youâre trying to stay in ketosis (fat based metabolism) all of them will spike blood sugar (glucose in the blood) and youâll come more or less out of ketosis.
I personally have been drinking coffee since I was three years old. I have had different amounts and different strength. Never once did it affect me negatively. Though I would say this is fully depending on how sensitive you are to caffeine.
Example is I can have a cup of coffee just before bed and fall asleep just fine. That is because caffeine works differently with me. It actually does the opposite of what it does to others. For example one my managers gave me a very strong energy drink. He told me that I need to be carful how fast I drink it. I honestly was stressed out and when I drinked it (faster then he could think I could handle it) it calmed me and made me tired. Lol The rest of my shift I was yawning and trying to not take a nap.
However if I had a ice coffee like from Starbucks it doesnât make me sleepy nor does it make me have energy. Itâs just well good lol.
I have had cases that I didnât drink coffee just to see what would happen. I went about a week no coffee and well all I got was stress, headache and just wanting a good cup of coffee lol
So I definitely say itâs really depending on the person.
And funny you talk about Keto stuff @Mulberry Iv been basically led to and introduced without my knowlage untill about a month ago me going on a Keto diet.
Well, thatâs your caffeine addiction though. ![]()
Yeah. But itâs hard when itâs in a lot of things I drink. Although as of this past last year Iv been basically forcibly in a way to stop drinking soda. I was never to big on energy drinks mostly because they donât do anything to me. That one I had was literally my first I had in years.
So really now (thanks to spirits and a change in jobs) I drink more water, teas, I still drink my mornings coffee and on my day off in the evenings I have a small cup with some cake. I drink some juices but not alot. My sugar intake has decreed ALOT.
@Zoclora Your tea has caffeine unless itâs herbal. I recommend if your caffeine addicted keep a tea bag or 2 on you so if you canât get coffee or energy drink or pop whatever you prefer you can still have caffeine via tea. Thatâs cuz you can cold brew or hot whereas coffee can only get made with hot water and is harder to carry on your person.
Add: edit cuz my spell check kept changing tea to yea
Like I said I havenât had any soda or energy drinks now for a long time. I havenât had energy drink (besides that one I had that I was talking about back in May of last year.) and only one soda I had the night before that was a very small can (the mini ones) do to it being a funeral. Besides that I am happy to say I have been off of soda (except sprite when I had a very bad monthly and needed something for my stomach. Sprite works the best for me compared to other things Iv tried.) So with that said Iâm very proud of only doing one cup a day of coffee, no soda, no alcohol, no energy drinks. Only water and supplants to help me with my joints and stay hydrated. (My work demands a lot of physical activity at times)
Plus Iv grown out of sugar for most part which is really good.
Let me also add how this was not an over night thing though to some extent it was lol But yeah donât go cold turkey. But depending on who you are this maybe a smooth process or not. But in some cultures some drinks are considered sacred and held in high regard. So if it is part of your spiritual path and itâs not causing you undo harm and you donât have any negative effects Iâd say drink up! But keep in mind everything is better in moderation. Example my one cup of coffee I have it as a part of my morning ritual. It helps my mind keep calm as I wake up and helps me focus on the dayâs tasks. I am also thinking of getting a special tea cup for my up coming tea adventures that I have planed.
You Know, The Native Americans Used Ash in their soil I think it was used as a fertilizer but I canâ quite tremember for sure (It might have actually been soot but Iâm pretty sure it was Ash)
Anything abused is a bad thing. If you abuse coffee or are addicted to it, sure it will hinder you. Do anything in moderation, whatever you do, and youâll be fine
i havent noticed it but i noticed weed and small doses of iboga make me feel energy more also the only thiings of i know of that is bad for magical abilities are antipsychotics and heavy metals
Every psychoactive substance will amplify a given ability during usage, but on the flip side will dampen the abilitie(s) for a period of time after the effect has worn off.
Caffiene was credited by the Buddha (the one that sat under the bodhi tree I forgot his name) for helping him stay awake so he could meditate.
I think he drank tea, which is not as strong as coffee, but the idea is similar.
