I’ve seen this subject come up so many times in the last few days I feel like synchronicity is slapping me in the face with it. I’ve searched the forum itself a bit but detail seemed threadbare. It’s evidently an implement of authority/power of some sort originating in grimoire practices, but that’s all I really know about the things.
It’s easy enough to read the ‘source material’ (Solomon and the Verum I’ve seen mentioned), but I’d like to hear from anybody who is actually USING this (or something like it), too.
A blasting rod is a specialty wand used to channel massive amounts of energy. It helps to focus power into a concentrated “blast” that is used to strike at spirits that get out of hand, and don’t respect the magician’s boundaries or authority.
It can also be consecrated to a Higher Power and used to bring down Divine wrath. The traditional blasting rod is actually what most people picture when they think of a magic wand. It tends to be plain wood, sometimes with glyphs or words of power carved into it.
I’m not aware of anyone using it offhand, not that they’ve talked about on this forum and I’ve read most of the posts here for the last 3+ years.
But in fiction there’s fuel for the imagination in the Kim Butcher book series, The Dresden Files, where the protagonist is a wizard who uses a blasting rod. There was a TV adaptation as well. The books seem to draw inspiration from various western occult sources.
I do quite abit of ceremonial magick and evocation and I myself have a blasting rod.
The reality is things can go sideways sometimes and spirits can behave aggressively. It does happen.
I keep my blasting rod next to my altar in a better safe than sorry philosophy.
There have been members on this forum who have experienced attack from spirits. It can happen to anyone. Especially if working with demons or unpredictable spirits sometimes they may test you.
The blasting rod focuses the magicians authority and will and drives a spirit back or dissipates it and also breaks up spirit legions as well.
This is my blasting rod, this is a piece of military memorabilia. It was the baton if a third star general. I chose this because it’s a symbol of command and authority.
Very nice! I haven’t personally run across a lot of mentions of the blasting rod, so I don’t really know what the difference between what it and a regular wand is.
Is there a particular ritual to make one that you know of? Also, can a regular wand be used in the same way?
I think most regular purpose wands would have some effect on a hostile spirit or entity certainly.
I took mine and asked King Bael to imbue it with his kingly authority and thunder and lightning. I passed it through incense smoke and consecrated it and it’s been ready to go ever ever since.
It’s like the old expression “speak softly but carry a big stick”
Which grimoire or book is the best for this . Id like to keep the rod as original as possible. I’ve scene the one in the dragon le rouge. But id like to compare text cause as we know, rituals of such powerul devices tend to be obscured over time
