When you study the history of animal magnetism, you realize that Levi got much of his esoteric knowledge from Baron du Potet, who was considered the finest animal magnetist of his era.
I personally believe Levi was wrong about Baphomet in many regards, and studying Shiva as a contrast points them out pretty clearly.
For one thing, Baphomet’s head is the Goat of Mendes, which connects to Saturn. Baphomet is also surrounded by the arcs of the Moon, which is the opposite counterpart to Saturn in the Tree of Life. This places Baphomet on the Pillar of Severity in a sphere representing old age, decay, and death as well as the sphere of the stars. The combination of Binah and Chokmah points to baneful stars.
Yet Shiva’s trident points to Neptune, a higher octave of Jupiter. Shiva also contains the sliver of he Moon, but a higher aspect of the Moon in Chokmah. Chokmah and Chesed are on the same Pillar of Mercy along with Netzach, which is Venus and the planet Earth. Chokmah represents the nakshatras while Chesed is Neptune, so the Pillar lines up thematically. Chokmah shin, Chesed kaph, and Netzach daleth also spell out Wisdom, Mercy, and Victory which are aspects of Shiva, and lead directly through Earth in daleth to the elements in Malkuth via Dagim qoph (Pisces, which is ruled by Neptune). These links all tie directly back into Shiva as the symbolism in Shiva ties to all of these spheres.
Shiva also represents many nakshatras including Ashvini (β and γ Arietis), Bharani (35, 39, and 41 Arietis, which formed the now-defunct constellation Musca Borealis), Aslesha (δ, ε, η, ρ, and σ Hydrae, a key constellation in the Books Of Moses), (α Boötis), and Purva Bhadrapada (α and β Pegasi).
Finally, there are symobls in Baphomet that belong to Shiva, but are given differently. The caduceus kundalini serpents in Baphomet are in the solar plexus area, but in Shiva are in the head and around the neck. Shiva’s halo is above its head where Kether Elyon is in the Tree - in Baphomet the fire of Elyon is on a torch. Shiva wears both rudraksha beads and a kundalini serpent around his neck while Baphomet has the beard of the goat and woman’s breasts (the Lunar Godname Shaddai etymologially descends from a Syrian word that translates to breasts). Rudraksha beads (the Tears Of Shiva) tie back into the Water element of Pisces and Neptune, and are important meditation objects that cover all of the planets and elements of creation, they form the Tree Of Life in miniature.
There are many links to Shiva that just don’t exist when you look into Baphomet, and there are a lot of things people just don’t know about Baphomet because they don’t know where to start.
Understanding Shiva is a lot easier than trying to understand Baphomet and leads to fewer silly errors, including the belief that Baphomet and Satan have anything to do with each other, or that Baphomet devotion is Satanism - they do not and it isn’t.
