I assume so, rumors are just information be it good or bad, information that may or may not be accurate and to the benefit or opposite of who they tell it to. Gods aren’t all knowing, all powerful, all present, that’s more of the monotheistic idea of God.
They still grow, learn, etc, so it’s quite possible.

WHat nutritional value do you think us speculating on what they are, constructing narratives around them has? Surely , the amount of focus ppl put into channeling, wanting to know them, love them, or stories of great wars, and what each race eats for dinner is a form of food…CREATIVITY has a flavor…Angel , demon, eggregore, gods, goddesses , “extraterrestrials” seem to all have one commonality…THEY LOVE CREATIVE activities. The minute I start thinking about how to craft a spell, what combination of invocations to open a ritual with,they swarm like lights and globes flashing in and out.
I get angry and feel something skimming off the top of my head…some love the rage, and energetic charge ( because rage is a tool to build energy for a flight or fight scenario…it is incredibly effective in the shrt term for this) .
Others seem to swarm when there is a feeling of lust, sexual arousal…
Sex and creativity are the same, and anger is like a concentration of energy built up or released for a purpose…

I would say that your underlying instinct is very strong. Go with that. Why are the ‘deities’ always murdering us? Why are we taught to be ‘good’? Why does it look like two storylines in every religion and myth? What is the third position, or reality behind that duality. Feels like something is wrong, doesn’t it?
