Is it simply religious fear mongering that muggles warn that working or having a pact with a Demon automatically means being their slave or property after death?
I don’t believe such a powerful entity would need or want a ‘slave’ and see it as a partnership in this life and that beyond.

No one really knows. Some people might tell you that you can’t “sell your soul” because it’s tradition to respond that way.
However, things are a bit more complicated than that. More importantly, how could anyone know for sure? This is like debating the afterlife.
I believe that one may be at ease about fear of soul sold forever (well, should the afterlife be static and thus eternal, it would be a problem).
The soul would be sold, supposing that this is a real option, “only” for the due period.
Selling your soul isn’t a thing.
