Rose water question

If I have rose water in a spell, can I just boil dried rose petals and then strain it and use it?

Too many of the aromatics could be lost to evaporation if you boil them.
I’d suggest making what’s basically a herbal tea - pour boiling water on the petals and let it steep with a lid on it (like in a teapot) for at least 10 minutes. Use the strained water when cool enough. You’ll still lose some aroma (as in, you can smell the tea so some aromatic compounds must be being lost still) but it’ll fit the purpose.

Either indeed steep them like tea or boil them.

Steeping them is perfect if you have dried petals. If using fresh petals, don’t put the heat up too much just let the rose petals simmer lightly in a little water with the lid on. If they’ve lost most of their color it’s done.

Thanks for the advice, but I had dried ones so I let them steep like tea.
Although it’s not a bad idea to use fresh rose petals and make your own rose water this way ,I will probably do it next time.

Either ones are fine. I find the fresh ones a little more fragrant, but that’s because I haven’t been able to find decent dried ones (and have been a little too impantient to properly dry some fresh ones myself)

Oooh and it’s been said that stolen roses work best for magickal purposes. So if you have a neighbour that grows roses and you can sneakily pick a flower or two without getting in trouble…

I didn’t buy them, but I get flowers as a gift from my husband, also for the holidays, so I dried them by just spreading them out on a tray and letting them sit for a few days.

The thing with the stolen one, this is how I secretly tore off the hibiscus that my neighbor had planted :slightly_smiling_face:
