Petitioning powerful, benevolent guardian spirits for the sake of another

Bear with me here, please.

My friend has just escaped a DV situation and his ex partner is continuing to manipulate him from a distance, through their 5 year old daughter.

Now, these adults can deal with their own scrabble. It’s their mess, honestly, and they made it. So they can clean it up… However, my heart is breaking for the little one. We have a close relationship and I am sensing her distress whenever she comes to visit. Playing out confusion through toys — asking me questions about love and hatred that a 5 year old shouldn’t even be broaching — telling me she is scared and afraid that her mother and father will never resolve this, and that she doesn’t know what to do. She’s an extremely intelligent possum and the absurdity she is being forced to witness is absolutely horrible.

I don’t even know if this an appropriate step to take… Involving magick when it comes to a little one like that. However, I wish to solicit a guardian spirit to go and watch over her, aid her, support her, and protect her.

Are there any operations where I could petition a powerful and absolutely benevolent protector spirit, specifically a guardian of children, in order to help her get through this terrible bout in her life? In such a way that she may get through this without any lasting psychological damage?

Again, I am cognizant that involving spirits for a little one is perhaps a dubious action to take. I am unsure of what to do and please tell me if this is a horrible idea. I am open to all types of input. They are impoverished and the public system of assistance has a framework of management (like animals on a farm), not genuine help. In that sense, I know she won’t fare will with just the government assistance. I am also limited in my ability to assist her with conversation, or teaching her acceptance and self love, as I am just the fun uncle-friend.

Any suggestions on benevolent protectors and guardian spirits which I can petition for the sake of another, and how one can go about doing it, would be deeply appreciated. Pointers to books or other writings that deal with this issue would also be appreciated.

If this is not a question that is permissable, please delete the post. I couldn’t find anything in the rules about it. So, I hope this is okay to ask about.

Many blessings and most grand thanks for any responses. :ocean:

I’d suggest mother goddesses of the home, like Freya, Briggite, Hera and related from the pantheon of your preference.

There’s an entity know for being protective of children in particular but I forget who right this second, so perhaps the goddesses are already involved.

Briggite crossed my mind reading the OP.

@Mulberry @Theoricus Thank you for your responses. I dedicated my dream space to this issue last night and looks like you both hit the nail on the head, upon my reading this after waking.

I was standing by a burning field of flax, or a fearainn gréasáin (literal translation is “web domain”, but my Irish Gaelic understanding is still in progress, this seems a little poignant) and Brigitte rode in on a large horse, surrounded by ponies. A large gust of misty wind followed her and settled the inferno.

I have an old relationship with Epona, so my senses tell me that I should make some offerings to Brigitte and Epona, both. I gave the little one a crochet doll about a month go, when this all started, which she carries around with her everywhere. She has asked me to make it a necklace, although she wanted a mala band like I have on my wrist.

I’ll still do the red mala, however I think I’ll go and get some horse hairs and braid another cord, to wrap around the mala. I am thinking I should scour the local river system and try to find a hag stone to add as a charm for the necklace. Perhaps some apatropaic magic would suffice, along with prayers to the mentioned deities, plus some regular feed offerings of oats bound within a flax or heshen bag that has been soaked in a herbal wash of rosemary and black salt.

I’m just drawing on my past experiences here and the folk magic taught by my own mother. It may be woo woo, so if there are better options for warding, I’m all ears.

Wonderful of you both to be able to pick up that the little one in need is of Irish descent, with the first recommendation of Brigitte. Thank you again, kindly, for your responses. I deeply appreciate it.

Nowadays these AI autocorrect features change my writing into all sorts of gobbledygook lol so no stress at all. Thanks again :glowing_star:

As long as AI isn’t doing your thinking for you so hard that an AI detector reads more bot than human in your post, it will stand.
AI content is banned on this forum, we don’t want to know what Internet sludge it dregs up, just so you know.

Oh, no. That’s not what I meant. I bloody disdain AI, particularly LLMs. I just meant that my Google Pixel phone has updated the text keyboard autocorrect feature to have an AI learning aspect. So instead of the old algorithm it used to learn my texting style and offer autocorrect options, it is now an AI doing to _look here, it changed “it” to “to”¿¿¿ wtf bro_ (probably some branch of Gemini). I want to turn it off, but I can’t. I don’t use LLM to write my comments. If you see an em dash, it’s because that’s just the correct language symbol to use in that context. The hyphen is only for hyphenating words.

@Mulberry I have been thinking about your warning to me about AI usage and it has lended some gloom to me.

I studied marketing at the University of Canberra and my focus was on copywriting. So, I have a rather developed personal writing style. I used to get a lot of compliments for it and was even invited to Singapore, to visit the marketing HQ for various leading companies there (Lion and Lion, Accenture, Ogilvy, etc.) due to how well developed my marketing understanding was. But, since the proliferation of LLMs and people using them to seem like something they’re not, I have received more and more accusations of using it myself.

I don’t use these tools to write for me and I never will use them. Like I said, I quite disdain them. I do, however, have an offline LLM, using AnythingLLM, that I train myself and is on my tower PC. Sometimes I’ll spend some time interacting with it. Even so, I do not take these interactions and post them anywhere, and the LLM is trained on the content from my own journals, that I wrote.

I just wanted to give some background clarification and hopefully clear your worries. The last thing I want is to be kicked out of this space, due to a misunderstanding. Thank you again for your patience and for moderating the forum. :folded_hands:t2:

There is the Egyptian god Bes, protector of children. To petition Bes:

Light a stick of incense or a scented candle.

Pour a glass of water for him.

Present an offering of food. You should eat the food afterward, since offerings to Egyptian spirits are seen as a communion. No junk like chips. A simple offering of bread will work.

Say petition to Bes and thank him for coming.

I can’t tell you what to do on your own time, just as long as we have your words and not what it has regurgitated from the words you fed to it we’re good. Using it as a search tool is one thing, copy pasting the results here without human input isn’t what we need.

This is a forum that is strictly for incarnate humans, attempting to become a living god, or at least to improve thier human lives using magick.

Before AI people would try to make roleplay accounts for thier “spirit companions” or post as a spirit they channeled, and that was vetoed for the same reason. It’s disingenuous and can make for some very confusing posts to interact with other humans - who are assuming you are also an incarnate human able to relate to them through this state of being - but using non-human constructs. As you say it can also end up being a kind of cat-fishing.

Thank you for bring us back on topic @Star-Seeker

You certainly do. You have my words and my word that they are mine. My PC is offline anyway and I can’t copy/paste anything from it to here. I use this forum with my mobile.

Apologies for getting off track. I just felt the need to defend my writing. If you are ever concerned about it not being mine, please reach out to me privately. I tried to do it this time, but I couldn’t find the dm button on your profile.

@Star-Seeker Thank you for the information, especially for including a ritual that could be valuable for this. I might give it a go, perhaps away from my own home, though. This place is specifically warded and set up to revere the deific spirits from the land that is now Ireland. I can’t eat bread, or anything particularly fibrous. So, I’ll probably go with an offering of fish — ideally I’ll catch a Redfin when I am fishing this weekend and I can use that. Hopefully Bes doesn’t mind fish. I’ll do some reading up in the meantime and decide whether mixing systems is appropriate.

Fish is fine!

Bonza! :fishing_pole:

At one point a couple years back, I was looking through old Irish and Gaelic sources. I was trying to verbally pronounce some of the Gaelic, and inevitably summoned Shadow beings, who happen to be fae.

And in my research, I made some notes about Lugh and Briggit. I will look through my notes and see what correspondences I have for Briggit to help you out.

Best way to ward of fae-folk is with iron. A “lucky horseshoe” if you will or request an audience with Oberon

From the information I have found, the Fae, fairy folk, etc., are just the Tuatha De Danann, who fled into an other world after being defeated by the Milesians (Son’s of Mil, purported to be the human people of old Ireland).

So, that would be Brigitte, Ogma, Eriu, etc. I think the fairy and fae that people fear are scornful versions of the Tuatha De Danann.

This is only my understanding, though. Legitimate sources are kind of scarce, due to Roman Catholics obliterating everything, then Brits obliterating it again.

Brigitte would be encorporated into the room of saints in Catholicism. Mostly because for as much as the religion was spread in Ireland, people still worshipped Brigitte and others. So as is with Roman Empire, with syncretism, they would adapt Brigitte into St Brigid of Ireland. the only reason I know this is because I live in Northern Ireland.

While its scarce for a mixture of reasons, one of which being that it was only oral tradition, it was actually thanks to the same people in the monasteries that we still have a form of documentation on Irish Gaelic mythos.

Hell, it’s actually the same for Norse Myth as well. For as christianised as Snurri Sturlosons writings of the sagas and eddas were, that’s actually how we still have records of the norse gods.
