Because part of magic, is believing in it. It’s kind of like chi, and why it doesn’t work on people not open to it.

By extension, while there might be many fake tai chi people, there are also real ones. But the reason this doesn’t work in a fight is because a human’s body is naturally programmed to repulse other signatures. This is why those teachers that are not fake, are able to toss around their pupils, because they have allowed their energy to affect them.
In many Daoist lineages there is an energy transference from a master to a student, to amplify or speed up certain things.

Same thing done by Hindu gurus. They do shaktipat which is an energy transference that awakens kundalini.
