To add to @DarkestKnight’s excellent answer, I will also name each demon involved in the process in my journal entry for each summoning. Sometimes I’ll have an entire plan laid out, and I can name each demon prior to their actual summoning, and sometimes I’ll be following my intuition and responding as the situation develops.
With layering, it is also often best to perform both general-purpose and specific, targeted rituals. So if you’re working to find the anteater of your dreams, then you’ll first want to do magick to enhance your search quite generally, encouraging chance meetings and boosting your attractiveness and charm. Then, you’ll want to target specific people as you meet them, to get a feel for compatibility. If things continue to go well, then you could address specific issues within that particular relationship, while also enhancing the best parts.
That example is more process-oriented, so another to consider is finances. Here, it is best to perform a “master working,” with the intent to boost your entire financial situation quite generally. From here, you become gradually more specific. You could target a ritual at enhancing income from a job, your business/side-hustle, and then any passive incomes/investments. After this, you could address specific situations within each general area. For example, you could do magick to gain favor at work, divine some fresh ideas for your business, and improve your skill or knowledge in a practical area.
One of the advantages to working in this way is that you allow your magick to surprise you, while also ensuring that you get specific things that you want. You may not always know the best ways to tackle a situation, so allowing the magick more freedom to work as it will can bring unexpected, and highly satisfactory, results.
Great topic @Hippyhair! Reading your post again though, I’m not sure if this is exactly what you were asking about. Are you curious as to how to work with many different spirits over time, or how to call both angels and demons within a single ritual?
