Modern day Evocation

Good day

This following thought has been in my mind these last days.
We study and follow old books, we use practices written centuries ago. These practices were based around means and methods of that time, very limited since that was all they had back then.
Now we have different “magical” things, we have computers, we have screens, we have recorded audio, we have so much more in our disposal, yet we stick to the same very old methods.
I’d be reading about evocation / ritual conjuration and there is a voice in the back of my head telling me, “times have changed, surely there can be an adaptation of the old into the new”. And I keep thinking, it’s all about the intent in the end, right?

I’d love to read your thoughts on it.

Thank you.

Yes, the medieval grimoiric tradition is not the same as the modern grimoiric you see today with new books published constantly.

New entities, new techniques, from binaural beats to using your phone as a substitute candle. (That actually doesn’t work great but it’s better than nothing)

The underlying principles are the same, so there’s only so much that changes. I’m all cases you are using tools to help you move your energy to affect energy in the world, and humans are still humans, so the that.

Sometimes the century old tried and texted solutions are still around because they just work. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I just adapt the centuries old methods with tools I have access to; like the seals and sigils, I dont have access to gold and silver sigils so I adapt and change the gold and silver to just paper and pen. I also don’t use the circle of Solomon traditionally or the triangle traditionally, I build those out of salt. A salt circle and a salt triangle.

Like the approach of Demons of Magick and 72 Angels of Magick. Evocation key use is very useful as it is an adaptation of the Mindfulness 54321 meditation technique.

Salt works fine as a circle, or you write down a esoteric circle of the 72 lettered name of God on paper, folded and laid over a rope circle measured out. We can use our phones as a black mirror, and use colored sharpies available at FedEx, including gold and silver and white sharpies. Cardboard can be used as tools for ceremonial Magick. Etc.

Thank you all for the replies.

So, from what I get from what is written here, everything is in the intent of the practitioner. Replacing items doesn’t affect the outcome (to which I wholeheartedly agree).
By that logic, everything can then be replaced by intention and, well, focus? meditation? do symbols even have an active role? Sure, a seal will bring more connection to your intention, but everything else?

I wonder if anyone had any success in evocation just be focusing, noticing and / or asking.

Or maybe, those symbols, even when replaced are there to assist in our focus of the desire.

Ive done evocation and invocation entirely through meditation before, all it is is intent. A sigil is kind of like a phone number. Its there to make sure whoever you’re contacting is the real entity and not some parasite hijacking the connection.

Hell, even my ring of Solomon isn’t really a ring of Solomon. Cause its symbolic. Its silver ring with an amber gemstone

Thank you
Dare I ask of details on your method?

For goetia work, I start off with meditation first and foremost, then if needs be the LBRP. Then, I light incense and perform the bornless one ritual. Then I place the sigil in a salt triangle followed by standing in a circle of salt. After that comes the evocation ritual. Once my questions have been answered I send the spirit away after binding it to the brass vessel(my copy of the lesser key of solomon)

One of my journals found on my profile about binding can provide more details

Nice. So in the end, you do facilitate symbols and symbolism.
