Meditation While Physically Active

Here’s food for thought, something I am doing on the go while walking the streets is focus my attention on the ground. Every step I take I think on the feeling my feet on sneakers feel while walking.

The golden goal is to have no thought or only the thought of ground feel.

The silver goal is to reduce the amount of thoughts that come to mind while ground feeling.

Yes! I’ve found it very effective as well. Of course it’s not really recommended to dive into the trance states that way. It’s perfect for your regular mindfulness practice. It was the only way for me to actually get into meditation. Sitting very still in silence is really not my strong suit.

I like doing this while walking in nature, especially spots with a minimal amount of other people around.

Walking meditation is certainly a thing, the danger of course is potential loss of situational awareness and walking in front of traffic of course (I suspect thats why buddhist monks tend to practice it on well known and often circuitous routes).
I did experiment with meditating on a stationary bike, but it was complicated by the bustle of activity in the gym and I found my pedalling intensity really lowered

Exactly why I prefer nature over urban walks for meditation.

My country is pretty flat and lot paths through forests are cultivated, so there’s only the danger of falling flat on my face when missing a hole or treeroot in that case.

I personally like this.

How I stayed Consistent with Meditation Even While At Work.

It works, it is controllable ( I can certainly say that I meditated for one hour) while doing anything physically.

Hmm how come? Let me guess… bumping into someone as a potential risk?

Oh I hear ya. Same here. Either I’m on an empty stomach and meditate to point where I feel sleepy or I am hyperactive.

I agree. I notice when I walk around in densely populated areas; my mind wanders more than in less populated areas.

Ah yes, so true… I almost bumped into a kid… Gotta be careful. I live in NYC so finding Quiet areas is extremely difficult…

Hahaha exactly! Bumping into someone, tripping over stuff but more importantly (depending on the infrastructure) even accidently walking into traffic.

Theoretically you could do the same in a populated area. Focusing on steady breathing, only noticing but not focusing on how the terrain feels, the sounds, smells, sights while letting your thoughts do their thing until the mind goes quiet.
But yeah, I also get distracted left and right with a lot of people around.

ADHD, yeah you know me…

What also worked great for me is meditating while doing repetitive tasks. Here you should also be careful when doing things where you could get hurt ofcourse.

Things like sanding down large surfaces of wood by hand, line work when drawing, even stuff like doing a lot of dishes by hand when my dishwasher died worked pretty good for me

I do this in some form. I’m a maladaptive daydreamer. So sometimes when that’s going on I can get into a mental state/a trance of sorts and can receive information from entities easily or manifest easily.

Usually, I’ll listen to music and pace around a bit, and after 5-10 minutes, my mental state changes to a more open(?) one like I mentioned above.

The idea of walking and meditating or even washing dishes or something, is something I never thought of before. I too have ADHD like some of the others here
My thing is, I can’t stand silence. So when I’m at home, I really do have the laptop or television set on, turned to a movie or some series or whatever. I don’t always watch, I just need the sound.

I perform magick with sound on, and try not to focus too much on: oh no, I should turn it off, I should focus…but I am focusing…I guess I mean that spirits, forces or entities do understand us  it will still work,

Sounds very familiar!! I do next to nothing outside my house without my earbuds in. When I don’t have some sort of sound or white noise my attention goes haywire and even simple things like doing groceries end up a failure
(no toilet paper or food, but I do come home with an assortment of herbs I already had enough of, 6 bottles of different sodas and kombuchas and a 24-pack of tea candles I didn’t need)
I’m doing a bit better with that these days with a regular meditation discipline and a bunch of CBT sessions.

I actually got into meditation to try and look for alternatives for my daily dex-amphetamine dose (and/ or self-medication with cannabis). Or at least a way to be able to skip it some days. Even just 5 mins. of “sitting in silence” had me bouncing off the walls, so my cognitive behavior therapist suggested meditation while doing active things. It really works wonders!
I am a lot better at doing “regular” meditation now, but that seemed impossible at the start. I’ve even started deliberately doing things without the “soundtrack-for-life”

When the silence gets to me while meditating, I have some sort of long mix of voodoo drums or some weird stuff like ΔXIUS LIИK or VK Jehannums stuff or anything else without vocals or at least something in a language I don’t speak.
