Many problems with astral projection

As I have mentioned in many of my posts, I don’t have the space, money, or privacy to do the things that many of you do. That’s why I’ve had to work hard to find ways to do magick that require little or none of those things, one of which is astral projection. If I could achieve it, an incredible world of possibilities would open up to me and I would make a lot of progress, both in my practice and in my life, but I have several problems when trying to do so:

1: I suffer from scoliosis. I literally feel pain all day long, and I have to make certain movements every so often to realign my bones, which, as I said, will soon shift back into a painful position. This does not prevent me from sleeping and therefore should not prevent me from astral traveling. The thing is that when I sleep, my consciousness “shuts down,” which I must avoid at all costs when attempting astral projection. Therefore, I must endure the pain in my bones for a long time in an incorrect position, because if I move to fix it, I will wake up my body and have to try again from the beginning.

2: The position does not work for me. I’m sure you know that it is always recommended to lie on your back to achieve astral travel. Once you are in that position, you have to let your body fall asleep, but that is impossible for me. I’ve slept on my side my whole life, so my eyelids aren’t used to having to stay closed when I’m “sleeping” on my back, and they literally open. I have to make an effort to keep them closed, and that way I’ll never achieve astral travel, because making an effort to keep a part of your body from moving is the opposite of being relaxed.

3: The weather is messing with me. As I said before, you have to relax your whole body, including your jaw, which means you’ll be “sleeping” with your mouth open. That wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the fact that it’s starting to get hot where I live, so I have to keep my fan on and pointed at me, which dries out the moisture in my mouth and throat, leaving me with a very uncomfortable feeling. It won’t be a problem once I’ve managed to detach my consciousness, as I won’t feel what’s happening to my body, but until I achieve that, I’ll have to put up with it. I’ve even considered sleeping with a face mask on.

And those would be my biggest problems in trying this, apart from the sudden itching, which I suppose I’ll just have to put up with. I consider yesterday to have been my greatest success in attempting astral travel, as I managed to numb my limbs (but not my torso and face) to the point where I began to slightly feel the tingling sensation that everyone talks about, but the problems mentioned above meant that I had to abort the attempt. Special mention to President Marbas, whom I asked to help me in my attempt, and well, as you saw, although it was not successful, I did manage to make progress. I look forward to your advice. Thank you for reading!

You don’t have to lie down to project. You can sit upright as well. Are you able to do so while relaxing your body?

Quick fyi, a product called “mouth tape” is advocated for a situation like this and due good sleep generally. I learned of this from a health YouTube channel called High Intensity Health run by Mike Mutzel, maybe give that a try?

I bought that and a heavy eye mask. Thank you for telling me about it; it has been useful. Now all that’s left is to overcome the scoliosis and the sudden itching, lol. I guess at this point it’s just willpower.

I’ve never tried it, I’m not used to sleeping sitting up and I don’t have anything very comfortable to do it in, but I suppose I could try it if I’m really desperate.

You don’t need to sleep. You just need to get into the relaxed state needed to project and you can learn to do that in any position. For example, in the BALG soul travel course, EA has the student stand up out of a chair when they first get out of body and later in the course, he instructs to go to a park and project there, then run the bases of a baseball field.

Well, the position is no longer a problem. I’ve realized that it’s a thousand times easier to lie on my side because that’s the position I’m used to sleeping in and therefore the one in which my body relaxes. Now the obstacle is my mind; I fall asleep trying, although I suppose it’s better and it’s something I feel more capable of overcoming.

If you can, you should first learn how to project sitting in a chair. This is the reason why meditators sit upright, it is so that they don’t fall asleep when their brainwaves slow down. EA recommends sitting in a chair to soul travel for the same reason. Your brain is conditioned to sleep when you lie down and it can take a long time to overcome that habit, but if you start when sitting, the skill will transfer to lying down much easier.

I found C. Kendall’s soul travel tutorial here, but it asks for some things I can’t get. Is it okay if I replace that with visualization?

I haven’t read that tutorial but I don’t see why not.

I second the reply made by @DarkestKnight - Raymond Bucklands red book on Spirit Communication has a chapter on OoBE, and the person sits in loose fitting clothes in a Lazyboy. After correct Rhythmic breathing has been accomplished the person is instructed to come out of Body and explore.

Interesting bit on running a baseball field.

Does emotional baggage of fears come with you, or are youree of phobias when travelling Out of Body?
