People dabble and use incantations they don’t understand. So when this happens to a person working with her it could be because they didn’t properly research the magical system that the incantation came from.

Yes, overall it doesn’t make sense to me that Lilith would do that. Seems too trivial and petty for something she use her time with. Thus why i recommend the OP to confront Lilith herself and see if she has any involvement in that.
