Caffeine is a known nootropic. Try imbibing some coffee before you study. There is research showing that it helps in focus, memory retention and recall.

Anecdotally, I once wrote a 3 hour psychology exam that I did not study for while buzzing on two energy drinks and managed to pull off an 85% solely on the recall of in-class lectures.
