I’ve read that invocations is like a partial possession of the entity… but, what prevents that possession becoming total???
Invocation is not partial possession. In traditional invocation, you consciously limit the experience as the purpose is to take on a quality or trait of the spirit, not to have your consciousness overtaken. You don’t allow the spirit to take over, but absorb its energy through focused intention. You remain in control of an invocation whereas in possession you give up control.

Also a) pick your entities wisely - work with higher beings that don’t need to possess you, verify identity, banish and cleanse and keep good spiritual hygiene so you don’t get fooled and used, and
b) keep your intention clear.
c) Know yourself. If you start acting out of character, if you know your own self you can take a step back, and fix it. If you not very self aware you might blame others for you being say, in a weirdly bad mood, when actually a parasite is embedding itself and asking for permission to take control. Stay clean - like you shower, so you keep clean spiritually as well. .
Invoking to gain energy is not the same as a “Jesus take the wheel” mentality. Possession requires permission or fear that you can’t resist - don’t leave the door open like that.

In my opinion, yes. Anything Earth-bound, no. That means no astral wannabes, no ghosts, nothing of average or below intelligence. If it can’t even talk it’s a no go.

After each spell you are supposed to end the working with banishing.
If this is a house hold spirit you are supposed to have boundaries.
I am not telling you what to do in your practice im making sure your energy is protected.
I mostly perform invocations, but that’s because I follow the demonolatry path more. How should I say, invocation is not exactly for a demon to possess you, but for you to call upon its powers and feel what it’s like to be that demon. Of course, you always dismiss it at the end of the ritual so that only its energy remains in you, without its presence in the space or in you. This is how demonolatry works.Of course, I believe that ceremonial magicians see invocation completely differently because most of them practice evocations.
From your experience, does mental invocation (looking at the sigil while listening a YT enn) have as much power as a verbalized invocation???

Enns always work whether we say them in our minds, listen to them, or say them out loud. You can also create your own Enn and it will work the same way.
