How valuable can virginity be in magical practice

Greetings!

How valuable can virginity be in magical practice? Can it be used in any way to increase one’s own power and for new forms of knowledge? I am a virgin and asexual; I am not interested in sex, and I have not had any sexual experiences with anyone. I want to understand if the presence of virginity is somehow justified as an opportunity to expand the boundaries of my magical practice.

I’m not aware that there’s any reason it would make a difference.

In the Book of Abramelin, it is mentioned that “Among women, there be only Virgins who are suitable” to contact the Holy Guardian Angel :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: . In the newer Dehn variant which contains the original text, it says that for men it is also better to be unmarried.

I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s just a matter of “Lowering the volume on your outer life while raising the volume on your inner life.” Maybe it’s also about not having your heart  already occupied.

Not sure about being a virgin, but some practitioners recommend to abstain from any form of sex for about three days before any type of ritual in order to transmute that energy into the work.

I can’t speak on virginity but celibacy has allowed me to subliminate.

Only because sex and attachment in intimate relationships sophons my emotional and psychological integrity and makes me out of my authencitiy. Some might argue I’ve been having sex with the wrong people because they haven’t had any involvement within the occult so that is another hypothesis.

I can’t say anything on that.

I do know I went through a period of sex magick with a partner who was unknowning (the books said it was acceptable), and when I was in sexual acts with him I would bleed randomly (not mentstual cycles or hormone issues it WAS unusual) It was in my neophyte year so it scared me a little bit.

So I’m not sure how it might work if you are a pure virgin. Do you mean if you are working it sexually? Or launching from a base with no sexual history?

I don’t think it will matter unless your mind is distracted and obsessing over sex, and thereby maybe rendering your results ineffective or useless. It’s not like a Christian or monotheistic religion which envows purity in doctrine or whatever they cite to be the holy or peak of religious sanctity.

Magick works with the energetic, psychological and emotional constructs of a persons mind & body when they are performing a ritual.

So if you consider that virginity keeps you healthy, sane and psychologically stable I don’t see it being any better or worse than someone who is a non virgin and is of the same health.

I am very grateful to everyone who helped with their answers in my thread. I was thinking about whether there might be an interesting aspect in using virginity as a way to attract the patronage of certain Deities and spirits who, according to mythology, highly value this idea of purity and untouchedness? I haven’t yet encountered specific descriptions of such rituals in traditional witchcraft. My own approach lies in exploring any labels we wear, whether self-assigned or imposed from the outside. Whether a label seems immense, powerful, terrifying, spiraling, stunning, or inevitable – the power feels like power.

How valuable can virginity be in magical practice?

It has no value. It’s logical garbage and a myth.

The point is to release the energy and maintain it according to your needs.

Purity, what purity? What does it mean? What do you believe in?

Lust has many masks, as Asmoday spoke of. Power, might, money, and all the rest.

It is the root and the tree from which countless buds grow.

Being a slave to desire is bad, but destroying one’s own nature is even worse. Many have done it. Many have committed suicide. Many have fallen into mental and physical illnesses.

I’m talking about a return to the natural state of things. To harmony.

Religion, as it says, is its denial, so I consider it a deviation.

Food, water, sex, and air are the basic vital nutrients of the body and spirit.

It’s a matter of survival. How can this be considered impure?

There are many examples of how this so-called purity led to the terrible deeds of priests? Mental aberration, ignorance, foolishnes. Let them be silent forever.

Animals are guided by instinct and the laws of nature. Even animals are healthier and happier than humans. In a general sense, of course.

Sex and procreation is a very primal instinct. It can be a powerful primal energy that gets you closer to a meriad of gods and goddesses (a lot of trad style witchcraft currents see sex and sexual energy as a sacred and powerful tool in the practice) and it can also keep you in a primal state instead of spiritually evolving.

For most primates sex is also more than just mechanism for procreation. It’s a social activity, it can be used to reassure, create or break bonds, to obtain power and status or to subvert agression or even authority. Males that have no interest in sex and females can even be allowed to.stay in and enjoy the benefit of “harem type” groups like with gorilla’s.

So I think it’s more beneficial to regard and repair our view on sex as a species, as a society and as an individual and decide our own relationship to it than it is to abstain from it just because many view it as icky and unpure.

I think virginity as a sign of purity is more symbolic than practical, more to do with the purity aspect of “the child” than the act of sex .The practical side might have something to do with a puritannical view and fear of strong willed women. As well as a more practical way of determining a paternal bloodline before DNA testing was a thing.
