Hello forum, I’ve been lurking here for a while and wanted to share my thoughts about something. Been practicing chaos magick (mostly) since I was in middle school and haven’t looked much into other practices. I’m mainly influenced by chaos magick and thelema though I wouldn’t call myself a thelemite. I just hava a strong belief in indivuality and living life on your own terms and following your true will. It seems most people in the world do not stop to think about what it is that they truly will. And I think magick can be a great supplementary tool to getting to that aim.
I took a hiatus from practice for a while but really I want to get back to it now that I’m fully committed to my own true will, which is earning a full time, decent living as a musician (won’t share the genre and instrument(s) but anyways). I’ve got a translation and teaching career going for myself and a ton of fallback skills so yes, that’s something I have considered. I live with family and work part time because it’s normal in my culture and I’m about to be admitted to my countries conservatory system (which is not super selective, unless you’re going for an advanced diploma which is what I’m going for. Regular ones often lead to teaching or background work, which is definitely part of my skillset and somthing I would like to do).
I have fallen in love with thelema but am hesitant to call myself a thelemite. “Love under will” is such a beautiful phrase. I decided to come back to practice after a local concert I gave where a singer told me to “pray to my guardian angel” and I immediately remembered all the stuff about the HGA and the abramelin procedure. I’d like to do something similar but within the limitations of my circumstances because most of us can’t afford to take 6 months off of work or studies and go live in a shack the countryside. I live in the Mediterranean where this would be a very pleasant option though. (Any tips on my diy abramelin procedure appreciated).
I found this forum on purpose after searching “occult forum” and scrolled through some of the threads. Out of curiosity, since that was what I had on my mind at the time, I searched for the words “music” and “music career” and found quite a few threads from people who wanted to use magic to either make music professionally or at least massively improve their existing skills. Most of these had no updates and the users are almost all now inactive. I’ve looked through various subreddits as well and most users there are again either inactive, moved on from magic entirely or still active and still practicing but having moved on with their lives from the idea of a music career, - and that’s fine for them but I can’t really find any people who have the results I want, aided by magick as a tool.
To me it seems that spirits (and to an extent self powered spells/rituals) can only help people who can already realistically achieve a given end. I’m not talking about absurdly unlikely things like being the next Beatles or Michael Jackson or some rando becoming a billionaire, just generally, it seems like spirits tend to aid people in pursuits who are likely to succeed on their own. It’s not that they’re not able to help some rando with no buisness savvy become a billionaire or some medically tone deaf girl ne the next Whitney but that it would take a lot more effort to do that than to help someone who already has the chops and aptitude for one of those things, or someone with a more realistic approachable goal. It’s not that they can’t accomplish for practicioners unlikely goals but that most people aren’t very likely to succeed in them, and it would therefore be more energy and time efficient for spirits to either help the small minority of people who is likely to accomplish an absurd goal or to help people whose goals are still approachable and possible even if difficult. In other words it seems there aren’t many people with the results I want (which again aren’t as massive and absurd as becoming MJ, just a fullfiling, long lasting career doing my true will), because simply put it most people weren’t likely to succeed on their own in the first place/don’t have the chops. It looks like spirits are willing to help people succeed if they judge that they are good candidates for success, - and music is a statistically unsafe career choice for the large pool of amateurs on average. Which kind of defeats the purpose of magick in the first place, the purpose of it is to make unlikely things more likely, so if spirits mainly help people who were already more likely to succeed on their own then what’s the point? Improving the odds?
What are your thoughts on the above, and do you know anyone who has successfully used the occult to aid their music or otherwise art/performance related career? I can’t really find anyone from anecdotes or in online forums. And don’t know anyone other than myself into magick IRL.
