Greetings, I’m looking for a ritual system that keeps the traditional rite structure while allowing contact with spirits from other systems. I met information suggesting that Hoodoo might be such a system that is useful for practical goals beyond religion interests and that some of its adepts mix it with North American and Mesoamerican deities, and even Santa Muerte may be included.
Mistress Connoly states that all of systems rules are created by people for people, so adepts are free to choose their own interaction methods. This approach works in many cases, especially within Western systems. However, Voodoo is one of the most powerful systems and it has old and very strict structure of rites. Ignoring some rite stages may attract death.
I’m interested in a flexible platform system that simplifies the cultular borders without loosing its original sources, divination system, etc. For example it should act with the help of Master Legba or another entity that rules the crossroads and it should allow to contact with traditional Voodoo gods, some spirits of North American and Mesoamerican tribes, Santa Muerte, spirits from Palo Mayombe and Quimbanda, other entities of region.
Does Hoodoo allow such universal practices? I would also prefer it within the traditional Voodoo if there is a way. Could you please advice any useful books, authors, or tutorials? It would be perfect if, instead of just a collection of spells and recipes, there was a review of the principles of this practice and an explanation of how they work—something that could be useful for developing dedicated techniques.
Thanks, these are interesting tutorials that may describe a process mechanics. But what about joining the systems? For example the Umbanda caboclos are indigenous spirits, not to mention the frequent Voodoo syncretism with Christian saints. I’m interested in establishing an effective practical common connection, better within existing tradition, with several spirits are familiar to me without digging much into religion and building the personal altar for each of them. They are native to mentioned region but most of them aren’t even related.
