Candle Spells/Rituals

Is it absolutely necessary all the time to let the candles and incense burn to completion? I have a small space and a sensitive smoke alarm area, and dont want to be interrupted by them going off or dealing with an irate roommate/landlord.

No. You can snuff, or pinch, candles out, and then light them again at a later time, until they burn down.

Most books on candle magick caution against blowing the candles out, though, as in doing so, it is believed you are blowing away the magick, especially if the candle is dressed, or charged.

Incense is a bit trickier, as once it is lit, there is generally no way to put it out, except maybe by burying it. It also depends on whether you are using stick, cone, or resin incense.

Yeah, I use stick incense, and burned the shit out of my saliva laden finger trying to pinch to out. Doesn’t work that way it seems.
The candles I put out by (in the case of tealights or pillars) placing a water cup base or pentacle over it to extinguish it, or (in the case of birthday candles) placing my fingertips in the water cup and pinching them out.
I wasn’t sure about letting the candles burn so long as heat and smoke can set off smoke alarms, and on the idea of if you extinguish them early it extinguishes your intent/will/work.
Didn’t know about the relighting trick.

Thanks!

Don’t forget that you can also buy smokeless candles that burn clean.

Nice, will look out for them. I also have a diffuser, but my cat has asthma, so I usually crack the window and try not to hotbox the room. Did that before years ago before my move to Virginia, and nearly passed out from the smoke and psychic pressure at the time.

  1. Get a small cup of dirt or sand from outside, cleanse it, consecrate it, and use that to smother the incense stick.
  2. Blow birthday candles out, they’re designed not to smoke. IF one is smouldering then pinch it.

If you look at them as a portal, then the work doesn’t end, the portal closes and your will is still out there. The work isn’t done until you say it’s done.

Yeah, Anna Rivas says the same on nine day Novena candles, that if necessary just relight the candle. Cool

I put out incense sticks by pressing the burning end into the incense holder. The lit part pops right off putting the incense out immediately. The incense is easy to relight too.

To give you a visual, it’s like breaking off the tip of a pencil.
