What’s the best Book/article you’ve personally used and got the best results?
This blogpost about Just. Effing. Magick.
You know how you can recall the feeling of a physical sensation or an Emotion? Like the feel of wind, or drinking something cold, or stubbing your toe, or excitement- and you can, if you concentrate, Feel it? […]
just imagine what *Your* magick Feels like, what it would look like blasting out as a spell […]
Or maybe your magick is quiet and creeps like tendrils of smoke, or flows like water.
Summon the vision, and more importantly, summon the Feeling […]
I wish the BALG authors would write something about a more direct
– less ceremonial – approach to magick like this. E.A. has a bit of that in Works of Darkness, but without sufficient detail for me.
An actual book recommendation: Energy Magick ![]()
Thx, I know everything doesn’t work for everyone. Some people said a book worked and some said the opposite. I like to have options in case I need to switch things up.
For me, Goetia Pathworking by Corwin Hargrove. It’s tool-free, quick and effective, but you do need to have enough awareness of how to leverage intention and visualization and sense when it’s enough without a big palaver - for some people the theatrics are the most helpful part as they provide the vehicle and time needed for the energy to be directed.
Evoking Eternity and Works of Darkness by EA Koetting.
I just ordered this book along with “Demon Curse Magick” also by Corwin, so I’m excited and I hope I’ll be able to work with it and that it will help me
Who likes Gordon Winterfield or Damon Brand books?
I have to check it out
Do you always do the suggested preparation before the rituals from that book, like skipping a meal, a shower/bath etc.?
No, as he says himself:
What if you’re at work? What if it’s the middle of the night? Ok, showering and changing clothes is ideal, but if you can’t do that, at least wash your hands and face. Take off your glasses and your jacket. Make it feel like a purification even if it isn’t. Ideally, shower and do the rest, but if not, do what you can.

As for meals, I eat OMAD (one meal a day) around lunch and I always do my workings after dark as a personal preference but if I eat late I can’t sleep, so I’m never doing ritual in a sleepy, overfed state. I agree I think that wouldn’t feel great as far as letting energy flow goes. I don’t want my body to feel icky and distract me for sure. But most rituals I forget my body, especially if I’m out of body for it.
The purpose if this is to feel open, ready, alert and focused on the point of the ritual, so I think if that purpose is met, regardless of whether you showered or fasted, or could only shed your belt and you had to eat, the need is met. You want to do whatever you need to get your mind able to move energy as best as possible.
You want to be wired on yourself, on your need, so fast for one meal. You don’t want to be too comfortable.

If it’s NOT met, you would ideally feel that and just repeat the ritual better on another day.
I would say, if the choice is between not doing it and doing it in a less than perfect state, do it anyway - “strike while the iron is hot”, and you have the spoons to get on with the work.
It’s not time wasted - it’s all good practice, and you will get to know yourself and notice your body in all conditions, know what you can do and what doesn’t work, and that is also valuable information.
He says a lot of things, and he explains his reasons which all make sense, but you don’t have to adopt other people’s opinions without considering your own worldview, way of doing things and what is available to you. I like to get good advice, but I also like look at the reasons and logic behind the advice, understand the why, experiment and make your own way. If I don’t understated the why, I might try it as part of trying to feel it out, but I may see it as unnecessary too and not do it.
I have been doing rituals from Demons of Magick for almost 6 months now; very effective and safe.
Good question, I heard fasting can help with workings
This article worked really well for me. I’ve also used the Spirit Feast ritual from Jason Miller’s Consorting with Spirits and found it really helpful.
