Satan means adversary, so one being the Adversary, everything else is whatever title your experience with him feels better towards, especially given the nature around ā€˜Satanā€™

Many refer to him as ā€œthe black dragon/serpentā€.

Thatā€™s why I said the epithets are whatever you choose to call it, given the nature of Satan either the title which was given to many entities or Satanael, thereā€™s varying epithets made up.

Donā€™t forget he is also known as the Devil, Old Scratch, The Horned One, Old Nick, Archfiend, the Evil One, Accuser, the Beast, the Great Deceiver, Tempter, Prince of Air, Lawless One, King of the Bottomless Pit, the Wicked One, and Fallen Star, to name a few.

From my understanding, it is because his realm was originally believed to be one that is below the heavens but above the earth, a sort of in between the spiritual and the physical. It is also because his specially is influence, and temptation, and he is ā€œat work in the hearts of men.ā€

The Biblical quote is Ephesians 2:1-3: ā€œAnd you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the powers of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedienceā€¦ā€

Elsewhere, Satan is also referred to as ā€œprince of the worldā€ so the use of the word ā€œAir,ā€ in this case, refers to Satanā€™s influence in the world, in my opinion.
