Voodoo spells question

Maybe a bit of a strange question but I have some voodoo spells that I found in a book, and my question is can I use them even if I don’t practice voodoo and I don’t think I have any African ancestors ?
and since I heard somewhere that I have to have one because voodoo is a religion and a person must be initiated there first
So is it worth using those spells without initiation etc., does that anger the voodoo deities ? I mean spells that require the involvement of a voodoo deity….

What is your opinion on this ?

Yes, you can work with the Lwa without being initiated. I’m not initiated and don’t have African or Haitian ancestry but the Lwa still came to me wanting to work together. Don’t let the religionists tell you otherwise. The religion is closed; the beings themselves are not and are free to choose who they work with. The author wouldn’t have published the book if no one else could use the rituals in it.

Thank you for your reply

Do we give them offerings and work on building a bond?

The whole argument of Hoodoo vs Voodoo. I see it as Hoodoo being the open practise and voodoo being the closed practise. In JCI terms for me, its the difference between Protestantism and Catholicism.

Both follow the same general idea but to become Catholic as a non-catholic, you go through a “rite of Christian initiation” in which you’re invited to learn the Catholic systems and traditions. Im sure Voodoo is no different.

Nearly went through with an RCIA in 2018 until I found Magick and other schools of thought. Felt as if at the time Catholicism was the next stage to my spirituality but the universe had different plans for me.
