Alright,so binding a spirit into an object is something that’s been of high interest to me in the field of evocation.I’ve done it several times, and it’s one of my favorite things to do when evoking a spirit, any spirit. Now,that someone has asked me to explain to them how to do it,I thought I’d share my experiences for everyone here to see.
Now,first of all, what does binding a spirit mean, because I know there’s a lot of misconceptions around that.If I bind the archangel St Michael, for example, the assumption made by the average muggle is that I somehow defeated the angel, broke down his will, and demanded he fill a magic ring that I then went on to wear, and that I basically enslaved the angel into doing what I wanted and that no one in this world besides me can ever evoke him, because he’s trapped in there.
I do not, cannot, and will not support slavery.Ever.When I bind the archangel Michael, other people can still evoke him,and even then,he is fully allowed to defy my will as is any spirit that I’ve ever summoned.
So what exactly am I doing in binding a spirit, then?
Well,I am taking that spirit’s essence, and a physical vessel,a magic lamp.I am connecting the two in such a degree, that the vessel is possessed by the essence of the spirit and acts as a literal gateway to its power. Then I carry it on my person or keep it some place, making sure its power stays and flows into this world unrestrained in accordance with my will.
Furthermore, spirits enter into these vessels of their own accord, they agree to do this, and I never force them.I’m sure that there are methods to force a spirit to inhabit a vessel, but most spirits seem very happy to enter a lamp.
Now,the question is why would they agree to such a binding?and the answer also aligns with the question of why demons are willing to work with us.These entities, are highly invested in our ascent, and their descent.Which is to say, they want us to grow, and they also want their power exerted on this world. We become so entangled with the notion that we must ascend onto their plane, that we forget the privileges of the empire we build here, and the fact that spirits can’t make something as durable as we can.In fact, even their ephemeral spiritual bodies, are things we make for them to inhabit. Thus, giving them a house, that’s literaly where they want it,and acts as a portal through which their power may flow,is hugely beneficial for them. And of course, for us.
Now that we’ve got that settled, let’s get something out of the way.
The ideal spirit to bind into a vessel,is a spirit who’s name no one else knows. This is not obligatory,at all.Especially in an area like the one where I live, where there are VERY few occultists, especially LHP magicians. But if I bind Paimon to a ring, and tell everyone that that ring has King Paimon in it,then if my use of King Paimon’s influence bothers someone else, they can evoke King Paimon and have him work against me,and that turns into an endless battle of wills, and offerings and sacrifices, that no one cares for. Now,I know that many people here can point out that any magician worth his salt can handle something like that, and that this advice of mine is dumb.
To that,I will say that I agree.I am not adamantine to that, because I genuinely think we’re allowed to share the names of the spirits that we work with,we call on,and that they won’t betray us or anything like that. They are highly loyal, and there is a whole set of things that can be said here.I merely pointed out, that it’s smart to have a spirit bound, who’s name no one knows,or alternatively simply not share the spirit that’s been bound. And even then,no harm done if you do,because as I’ve said, many of us live in muggle-places,and only a small amount of people on this planet are even adept enough at evocation to use nothing more than a name to evoke a spirit.
Next,I will point out the nature of the vessel. The vessel, also known as a lamp,is the place where the spirit dwells, when in this plane,as well as the gateway through which its power flows. Now,what exactly should your vessel be?
Salphinx recently made a post on whether or not it can be an animal,or plant or living being.I pointed out it can be a spider or something, but it is generally an inanimate object. Now,your exact vessel would depend on what you’re doing.
You may want it protecting your home,or you may want it making you charismatic.Natural items, are generally better than things like scissors,or non-natural items. But even that,is not set in stone.
The main things that I would recommend about a vessel,is that it be something you won’t lose, have access to(ergo can easily feed),and has either the spirit’s name written on it(preferrably in the original alphabet of the spirit’s origin),or its sigil.Or both. And of course, that needs to be charged.
Feeding the vessel, and the spirit within,is very important. It honors it,yes, but it also anchors them into this world, magnifies its influence.the frequency varies and is something that should be discussed with the spirit.Only the demons and angels and souls of the dead may tell you how often they want your attention, and how you may feed them.
My most common way of feeding is simply opening the sigil that I drew on the lamp,or in the case where the sigil isn’t drawn, holding my right hand over it,and pushing my energy into it.
This is done by entering a light theta gamma sync and imagining that I am surrounded by light, but instead of it being clear light it’s dense and bubbly, and as I inhale,I pull the light into my body, which has at this point been visualized as a creature of glass, and as I breathe out,I imagine that light being pushed out of me,and through my right arm into the vessel.Sometimes,I may even feed by dipping it in water consecrated as an offering to the spirit, but that varies from spirit to the spirit, hence why you need to work out the specifics with your spirit.
Now,how does one bind a spirit?
First, lay out a triangle of candles, and stand facing towards the place where the spirit is usually summoned(West for the dead,South for demons,East for air elementals, etc.)
Shut out all lights, get a sigil of the spirit out,and meditate on the outcome.Gaze into the middle candle, the one that is in the upper point of the triangle, and see become entranced by the dance of the flames.Push this to an extreme, and then turn your sights towards the sigil.
Open the sigil, letting all of that desire bubble out of you and into the sigil.Place the sigil in the center of the triangle of candles, and on top of it the vessel. If you have drawn the sigil on the vessel, let the two sigils touch, and then gaze at the vessel,as though scrying into it.
Then repeat the spirit’s name, and speak the incantation. An example that I use somewhat often:
‘‘N. I command reality to bend and contort,in order to bring you before me,so that your power may be my power, your strength may be my strength, your wisdom may be my wisdom and your knowledge may be my knowledge.I evoke you into this vessel of (insert material of item) in order to materialize within.I give you license to inhabit it,I demand that you bestow upon its power, and possess it with the fullness of your glory, and may it act as an anchor that brings you to this world.By the Powers of (insert system from which spirit comes from),it is done.’’
As you say this, feel the spirit’s energy, that is around you, coming, and structure the spirit’s body.Instead of structuring it before you, like you would in regular evocation, structure it inside the vessel, and breathe more and more life into it.Watch the spirit materialize above you,and then point it down, getting it to inhabit the object.
If your clairvoyance isn’t finely tuned,or if your structuring skills are lacking, then a manifestation base may be necessary to evoke the spirit.Either way, you’re performing an evocation, but instead of summoning the spirit before you, you’re summoning it into the item.
When the spirit has possessed the object, speak its name, and talk to it,about what you want it to do,the purpose of the whole binding ritual, the purpose of all of this,et cetera.Ask for its help, and such. You may give the spirit an offering to tear the veil, and bring it more and more. Then, wave your hand on the item.
As a final addition say:‘‘I seal you into this lamp to help me accomplish (insert goal). It is done.’’
And then drop a drop of blood, onto the vessel.Alternatively, you may choose to use water that’s been consecrated,an offering for the spirit,or whatever else may be used,in order to keep the spirit inside.
You may do this before an altar,or within a circle. The procedure may vary depending on the spirit and may be edited as much as you want, but that’s the basic principle. To actually use your vessel, carry it around, keep it around, and basically integrate it into your everyday life, keeping it a part of your everyday existence.
Another note. It’s good to connect the three candles into an actual triangle, with chalk.Another good idea,is to place five candles, and connect them into a pentagram, and then do this all in the center of the pentagram.
I hope that this small article has helped.I’m sure many may have other methods that vary, this is mine, the one I use and have used.I may also end up posting a tutorial on possession,or another evocation-related topic.Whatever you guys want!
