The Amazing Movies Thread

The majority of my occultish practice has been on the art of dreaming. So, while this movie isn’t the end-all-be-all to me, it struck a major chord to see others following a similar path:

I get a black bar that says “private playlist” and the video doesn’t load Thanks for trying though!

Great movie, Sukujin. Several years ago I managed to find it in a video store that had old VHS tapes and managed to hire it out a few times before they sold them all. Brings back memories and really inspired me to push forward in magick. One of the lines that stuck out was " A psychic is passive. A magician is active. I will what I wish to see in the world" Something like that. Very cool indeed!

The Prestige

Ninth Gate and pretty much anything with Johnny Depp.

Chaotic Ana trippy flick with subtitles haha

I have lot of amazing movies that inspired me. Here’s my list:

1/ Devil’s Advocate - for me the most realistic rendition of Devil principle, I love Al Pacino
2/ Constantine - awesome scenes from hell
3/ Ninth Gate
4/ LOTR - especially Return of the King

OK time to stop lurking and turbo charge this thread!

Do I assume from all replies of Ninth Gate/Constantine that most of the posters here are in there early to mid twenties? If so I’am old enough to be your father (and probably am :))

So here goes in no particular order:-

Hellraiser - Acupuncture… on steroids…

Angel Heart - Micky Rourke all confused but I know who you are Louis…

Eraserhead - David Lynch film - wtf???

Blue Velvet - David Lynch again. Who’s your Daddy? Dennis Hopper is. I fervently hope that I never come across his character in real life.

Rosemary’s Baby - A morality tale about trying to please the neighbours…

THe Devil Rides Out - Based on a Denis Wheatley novel and A Hammer production.- The only time I’ve seen on film a realistic evocation ritual.

To The Devil A Daughter - The last of the Hammer films and again based on a Denis Wheatley novel. Natassia Kinksy pops out a Devil Child.

Constantine - agree with previous posts.

Ninth Gate - Very flat ending I thought.

Devils Advocate - Al Pacino meet OTT acting!

Evil Dead - If you should go down to the woods today…No teddy bears picnic there.

THe Omen I, II & III - nuff said…

The Whicker Man - NO not the Nicholas Cage useless one but the Edward Woodward one. Pagans 1 Christians seriously 0.

Life of Brian - Hilarious - can never take the Abrahamic fruitcake religions seriously after that.

The Witchfinder General - Another Hammer Horror - “I love the smell of burning witches first thing in the morning”

I’m sure there’s plenty more but back to work for me!

Ok some more…

The Amityville Horror - You did get a survey done on the new house? No?

Poltergeist - The paranormal obviously watched Animal House…

Carrie - Well I didn’t bully her - did you?

The Entity - Paranormal rapist on the loose. (!)

The Hunger - Girly Vampires. Susan Sarandon and Catherine Denueve do their own thang together. Now what hot blooded male wouldn’t like that? David Bowie reminds us why he should stick to pop. Best opening scene music of ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’ by Bauhaus.

Interview with a Vampire - Tom Cruise as a vampire - well he did his best to act bless him…

The Shout - Low budget brit pic from the 70’s. Well worth a look. Alan Bates claims he can kill people with a special shout he learnt form the aborigines. Or is he just mad?

The Addams family I & II - Highly enjoyable to watch on wet afternoon.

Harry Potter - enuf said…

The picture of Dorian Gray - Pre botox/plastic surgery Victorian styleeeeee…

As well as many of the films mentioned before. My 2cents.

Star Wars Ep4. Good and Bad Sorcery, Mentors making sacrifices, Plucky underdogs fighting a faceless empire. ‘Good’ Guys doing ‘bad’ things…Han Shot first.

Ghost in the Shell. How much of a human can be replaced by cybernetics and still retain a soul?

The first Matrix movie. Gnostisim in a nutshell. A stand alone film, ignore the sequels.

Just saw this move, Chronicle:

I think those of us who have thought about magick for most of our lives can relate to this fantasy - one day being imbued with the seed of awesome powers, and then letting them grow and mature. I think we all wanted it to go the easy way - getting it imbued by aliens or some artifact or a genetic mutation, rather than having to work for it the hard way, heh.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. Good flick. It’s like a darker version of The Last Mimzy:

Also very cool, but it is a kid movie, so take if you’re too cool or too dark for that sort of thing, don’t bother.

I really can’t think of any movie that inspired me to become a magician or to start the journey i’m in. There’s too much dogma, too much religion and nowhere near similarities to my own experiences. That doesn’t mean I lack the interest in movies, though.

Carrie (1976)
Forget the remake. I couldn’t sympathize with the modern “Carrie” as much as the original one. The original was a masterpiece. A bullied teenager, raised by a dogmatic religious mother, that doesn’t comprehend the biological changes in her body. Telekinetic power and puberty is pure horror, and when she’s had enough of her bullies, the entire small town will never forget her anger.

Everyone rooted for the warlock!!

One of my favorite occult movies was “The Haunting in Connecticut”. Largely because it lacks a lot of those horror film troupes that i know you dont care for Timothy. No serious overstated gore. No “First to die token black guy”. No overbearing douchebag jock. No vapid bimbo death in the shower.

I really dont want to get into the plot, as it is that good. But it is about ectoplasmic scrying. The outpouring of Ectoplasmic matter from the orifices which is then used for scrying. the whole movie is suspenseful and chilling.

Tree Of Life is a fascinating movie that deals with one of the biggest questions: The meaning of life and the creation of the universe.

This movie raise questions, tickles the thought of life’s purpose and what it means. And for the bigger picture, it makes mankind “tiny” and “meaningless”.

Requiem For A Dream is the anti drug movie that stabs deep in the emotional senses and the imprints last forever. The consequences of addiction is very harsh and this movie doesn’t try to glorify drugs in any way. It’s one of a few movies that really moved me, emotionally.

I didn’t know that we have a movie thread…

Remember ‘‘Poltergeist 2 the other side’’?
One of my favourite movies ever…

Toy telephone scene…Beautiful music also
Heather O’Rourke - Poltergeist II The Other Side 1986 / Part - “Telephone”

Good Will Hunting is considered as one of my favorite movies. One scene is where Robin Williams shine as a serious drama actor. This is deep philosophy where actual experiences of life outshines theoretical knowledge. The spoken words of “Sean”, is very applicable to magicians. I mean, you can read all the books and grimoires, but you wouldn’t really “know” until you actually experience it first hand.

I can’t learn anything from you, I can read in some fucking book!”
