Study of Goetia Demons (origins, name Etymology etc)

Forneus

The nature of his name is obvious Latin and greek. Forneus appears as a sea monster similar to leviathan and his name is thought to be derived from the latin Fornus which means furnace which we can draw the parallel of a being who is the furnace of hell or a hell mouth which this concept is close to leviathan himself.

Today I was studying Cypriot antiquity and I found about an unknown god who went by an epithet that is “φωνιευς” the epithet was never mentioned before in any Hellenic texts so it’s meaning is unknown. Only inscriptions of this god is found on the ancient cite of kourion that is only 10km from my house. The local god of kourion is appolon so this could be an preciously unknown title of Apollo but no one is sure.

There is a lot of examples that when you can a being only by a tittle it acts like it’s own being. Examples such is Baal Berith and Berith. Beleth too, Beleth literally means lady which is an to the goddess astarte. And Abaddon-apolloyon, apollyon literally means destroyer in greek os does Abaddon in Hebrew. Appoloyon is a title of Apollo.

My points are:

Forneus has a clear name , but not a clear god origin.
Could be derived from furnace.

But isn’t it more plausible to be originated from a title that belonged to an actual god rather than a fucking furnace?

The title literally misses an “R” in the middle of the word and here you have it, Forneus!

Additionally, forneus is a demon of speech, linguistics and of divination the article says

“stood for the word attested in the epics φωνήεις (“the god is endowed with speech and thus oracular”)

Forneus second attribute is of friendship and bringing people together
