I have heard that shades can drain energy from people . Can they also vamp shields and wards?

Yes they can. Necromancers work with them for baneful purposes.

Stupid question but what is the difference between a “shade of a dead” and a “spirit of the dead” ?!?

Like one remain on the astral while the other move on and/or rise to another plane?
