Santa Muerte and Marinette

Vodou recognizes a Petro loa named “Marinette” or more fully, “Marinette of the dry arms” (i.e., skeletal form). Is she Santa Muerte, living in and carried along by another tradition?

La Santa Muerte is a Death God. Marinette a Petro.

Two different spirits. If you do research about la Santa muerte she goes back under different historical names.

Oh I know! Those are the ships Christopher Columbus uses to travel to America! :joy_cat::frog::rooster::rabbit::us:

There appear to be some interesting similarities for sure. In addition to their skeletal features, Santa Muerte is strongly associated with the owl while Marinette is known as the Lady of the Screech Owl. So perhaps they are different masks for the same force?

I found this article that links them as well as the Anima Sola:

Very interesting @Nyxifer, thanks for the insight and article. Ever-reliable Wikipedia adds some further insight about the “crossroads,” which is a recurring theme all over the place.
