In vedic astrology, Aldebaran (Rohini or Brahmi) is ruled by Brahma, and its planetary ruler is Chandra.
The book i recommend most for the lunar mansions is The Fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology, by Vivian E Robson. I rely on this book for working with the stars and it has helped me immensely, and it works well in conjunction with the website Constellations Of Words for understanding fixed star election work. Understand that the info on Constellations of Words is astrological and there are many magickal errors on there, but otherwise the star info and descriptions are generally good.
Other books i highly recommend are:
: Nakshatras: The Ultimate Guide to the 27 Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology, by Mari Silva
: Fixed Star, Sign and Constellation Magic, by Christopher Warnock
: Bradyâs Book of Fixed Stars, by Bernadette Brady
I personally work with the fixed stars using the Greater Ritual of the Hexagram or Liber Resh vel Helios to the star instead of the Sun, using the starâs rising, culmination, and setting times to adjust the adorations. I use Stellarium on my phone to tell me where and when the star is located in its quarters in the sky and organize to do the work then. When you do this for a few days, youâll notice you ALWAYS have a light shining on you 24/7. Itâs uncanny how that happens, but there you go.
In the Picatrix the spirit rulers of Aldebaran are Uriel and Azariel. In Enochian the spirit ruler of Aldebaran is Iczhiha (for mercy) or Iczhihl (for severity). The behenian star sigil for Aldebaran (as drawn by Colourbox) is
Traditionally, the Stars are Gods (See: Book III of the Corpus Hermeticum, Ovidâs âMetamorphosesâ, and Platoâs âTimaeusâ, although in Timaeus They are more broadly referred to as Divine Beings), so you can just pray to Aldebaran like you would any other God! There are no sigils or anything else needed. In general, I believe praying before a fire (Of a candle or otherwise) is great when praying to Gods and Angels.
Our primary traditional source when it comes to the Behenian Fixed Stars is the Medieval text called âDe Quindecim Stellisâ (On the 15 Fixed Stars).
[Aldebaran] 1. The seed of Spurge being put under Carbuncle with the character shown, the Moon being joined to Aldebaran on the ascendant or midheaven, doth increase the wealth of him that beareth it and bestow great honor upon him.
âTranslated by Regulus Hess with commentary by Christopher Warnock, De Quindecim Stellis, âTabula XV Stellarumâ, Kindle Edition, p. 66
Here we see that wealth and honor is in the domain of Aldebaran.
Take a look at Christopher Warnockâs work, he has some interesting things for working with talismans and also looking for devotional work, which apparently is what you are looking for.
Not necessarily, no. In Messalaâs manuscript of the De Quindecim Stellis, Part I, Aldebaran is said to be of the nature of Mars and Venus. So, in a nativity if Mars is with Aldebaran, it has signification in wars and conflicts, but if Venus is with Aldebaran it signifies mildness.
But, when it comes to the powers of Aldebaran through His herbs and stones, our sources (Tabula XV, Liber Enoch, Liber Thebit, Confessio Amantis, Marsilio Ficino, Agrippa) make no mention of military life when it comes to the wealth and honor that Aldebaran bestows.
Does anyone know of any online calculator which does partial or full elections of stars according to Christopher Warnock - Fixed star sign and constellation magick?
I donât think thereâs software that can automate finding full elections, itâs best to check elections manually. But, if you just want to find when the Star is Rising or Culminating, you can do that easily enough without much knowledge of astrology. You can use Astro.com to generate charts.
Itâs important to check as many of the source materials as you can to understand the nature of the star youâre working with. Planetary conjunctions can change the nature of a star considerably.
In general, the planetary quality of the star depends on its colour. In book I, chapter 9, page 47 (Loeb, 1940) of the Tetrabiblos, Ptolemy clearly states that Aldebaran âis of the nature of Mars.â
Agrippa confirms this in book II, chapter 31 of his compendium: â Also in the 3rd degree of Gemini is Aldeboram, of the nature of Mars and complexion of Venus.â
Both sources verify the modern astronomical classification of the star. Aldebaran is typed as spectral class K5+ III, a regular giant star (III) with the qualities of Mars (class K).
The fables associated with the fixed stars also indicate the situations you may encounter in working with them.
In the Vedic nakshatras, Aldebaran is represented by Rohini, who is Chandraâs favourite consort. Chandra rules the Moon, indicating that their marriage (Moon conjunct Aldebaran) is a favored position.
Even then, this union gives trouble. According to astrologer Vivian E. Robson, Aldebaran conjunct 'Sun or Moon, culminating or rising promises âgreat honor through violence, with difficulties and casualties.â According to Vedic lore, Chandra (the Moon) spent most of his time with Rohini (conjunct Aldebaran), which enraged his other wives (the Hyades), who subsequently complained about this to their father Daksha. Seeing his daughters unhappy, Daksha cursed Chandra with leprosy.
In Torah, Aldebaran is represented by Ruth, who is hired to work with the women (the Hyades) and marries her boss Boaz. The word ××˘× has been suggested as beâoz (in the strength of) or more likely, boâoz (strength in him)" from the root 'zz, (to be strong).
Strength or Power is the sphere Geburah, which rules Mars. Once again, Robson writes that Aldebaran conjunct Mars offers âgreat military preferment but attended by much danger; liable to accidents, fevers and a violent death.â
Aldebaran conjunct Venus is also not without its problems. According to astrologer Elsbeth Ebertin, this conjunction exhibits 'Power directed wrongly. Abnormalities in love life (Fixed Stars and Their Interpretation, p.30).
I personally wouldnât elect for Aldebaran. There are other stars that work better for wealth, and some of them work MUCH better. In Taurus alone thereâs El Nath, which is also of a Mars nature, but i recommend it more than Aldebaran.
All of these indicate that the promise of Aldebaran offering âriches and honourâ indicate that the wealth given by Aldebaran is due to military conquest. Meaning, youâre going to have to fight for your prize.
My sources tell me a very different story. Check your own words CAREFULLY (after all, this is magick. The devil is in the details). As you said,
That word honor says A LOT! Historically, honor was only given to military generals. Honors indicates that the wealth you gain are the spoils OF WAR.
Side note: itâs important to check ALL of your sources when it comes to the stars. They often cut both ways. The Godname of the stars in kabbalah are Elohim (stars of mercy) AND Elim (stars of severity), and many stars are both, depending on which planetary conjunctions they have, or where theyâre located in the sky when you call them.
Personally, i wouldnât call on either Aldebaran or Alcyone in the Pleiades for wealth. There are other, better stars that give wealth than Aldebaran.
Iâd recommend El Nath culminating on any night, or El Nath conjunct Venus.
Iâd also recommend Sirius conjunct Moon, Venus, or Jupiter for success and wealth over Aldebaran.
Third, Spica will be conjunct Sun in a couple of months, and Spica will be conjunct the Moon in a couple of weeks. Both of these times are perfect for electing for wealth, especially when you call Spica conjunctions when theyâre rising or culminating. These are the 2 luckiest positions in the nighttime sky, and Spica brings wealth with peace rather than war. Spica is a spectral class B star (B1III-IV + B2V), indicating that it is of the nature of Jupiter.
These stars give wealth without the military campaigns stars such as Aldebaran, Regulus, or Rigel demand. There are other stars iâd add to the list of stars that bring wealth without warfare.
Itâs a very fair link to be made with Aldebaran, and I donât disagree with you that Aldebaran can have links with the military, even though I disagree that His influences always involve the military or conflict. After all, the plant of Aldebaran, according to Hermes in the De Quindecim Stellis, is quite a poisonous plant.
However, Iâm not so sure that traditional astrologers would have associated Aldebaran with a malefic influence even when conjunct Venus, as Hermes says this:
And know that each fixed star consisteth of two natures, as of the nature of Saturn and Venus, or of Mars and Mercury, or else of Jupiter and Saturn, or of Venus and Mars. Note besides that when any planet should be with a star having in part the planetâs nature, it is made more potent by the nature which accordeth with that of the planet, while the nature of the planet is in like manner augmented.
For example, let a certain star be of the nature of Mars and Venus: so long as Mars should be with that star, the nature of Mars will conquer in signification; but should Venus be with it, the nature of Venus will predominate. Thus shalt thou understand the various placements. But if any fixed star should consist of a good and an evil nature, and a good planet should be with it, or behold it with a good aspect, this signifieth good; whereas by an evil one shall come the contrary.
-translated by Regulus Hess with commentary by Christopher Warnock, De Quindecim Stellis, âQuadripertitusâ, p. 25, Kindle Edition.
Marsilio Ficino says in his Three Books on Life that when Mars is with Venus, His good drive and determination is strong and firm, but without His violent nature, because the moisture of Venus makes Him more mild. I reckon that is what Hermes means when he says that Venus with Aldebaran makes Him mild, and in the above excerpt it is clear that His influence is benevolent when He is with a Fortune. Robson and Erebinâs associations make sense in a modern point of view, but Iâm not so sure in traditional practice.
For what itâs worth, after my workings with Aldebaran my income increased significantly (Praise Aldebaran!), and I have no association with the military, nor did any of this come about with any conflict, and I know others report the same. To add to this, during one of these workings, Mars was appying to a conjunction with Aldebaran by less than one degree (In Term).
