When giving an offering for a ritual (food or otherwise) how long are you supposed to let pass before disposing of the actual physical embodiment? For instance, leaving food around to rot doesn’t make sense. Also, is it ok to just throw it away, or is there disrespect involved and it should be disposed in another way?

Generally, leave it for 24hrs to allow the spirit to take their fill, and then you can dispose of it. Traditionally, food offerings were given over to the elements by either burying them or burning them, but these days it is fine to throw them in the trash. Liquids can be poured down the sink or flushed.

I don’t usually do offerings unless it’s requested from the entity, but the rare times I was requested for one, it was usually given for a certain time frame for which it was agreed beforehand with the entity, with minimum time being 24h as DK stated.
