Re: Why is Humour so Antithetical to LHP Magick?

In my opinion you have to chalk the seriousness in LHP up to 2 reasons, at least when it comes to the ritual itself.

  1. Visualization to direct energies takes strict concentration, humor and jest breaks that concentration completely. Don’t believe me…go to a business meeting and rip a good juicy fart in the room. After the laughter has died down, apart from the smell, all concentration on the matter at hand is gone. The same applies to ritual. Strict concentration is key to success.

  2. Dealing with malevolent spirits requires a degree of respect for them and yourself as well as being disciplined in your request and interaction with a spirit. If they think you are a joke, they will do nothing for you. They have to know your power, and you have to realize your own power and potential. This strictness isn’t always the case once a relationship with a particular diabolical spirit has been established however. As an example, I have a good working and pleasurable relationship with Lilith, and she for one gets extremely turned on when I call her “My filthy demonic whore, slut. fuck this cock you devil bitch…ect.” you get my point. I’m sure she isn’t as nearly accommodating with that dirty talk with just anyone who wishes to summon the all powerful Duchess of Hell, bringer of sexual destruction and chaos. But with me she is

Where humor is definatly required is post ritual. One of the worst things a sorcerer/magician can do is be all broody and dwell on the ritual they just finished. This will draw away the power of the ritual, cast doubts in their mind and ensure failure. Humour, socializing, whatever it takes to draw their attention away and forget about the ritual completely and let the spirits do their thing is the very best advice I can give newbies.

I, as you can see, am at ease with working in the LHP. Some like to look the part and “fake it, until they make it” by being all black and serious and gothy. Its a show and they have no real power. Its their thing, and they want to give an aura of superiority and seem like they are bad-ass black magick users. Inside, most of the time they have low self-esteem and the spirits can sense this every time.

My thoughts on it. Have a nice day.

Moved this nice reply here as its own topic - remember, everyone, that the Q&A with EA section is for just that. If you want to have a crack at something presented there, please make a new topic of it elsewhere so as to avoid clutter and keep the Q&A section fairly streamlined so that EA can better look through it for questions to devote a video to.

Cheers!

While I do agree that you must be serious during ritual because, well that should be obvious why but if for no other reason, out of respect for the spirits you are working with. But when I’m not engaged in ritual, I try to have fun, I joke with the spirits. If you can not feel afraid like you’re angering them by being human and having a good time on occasion, the spirits (well certain ones that I know) seem to really like the humor aspect, and will purposefully try to entertain you and joke with you.

I’m sure the spirit that pops into most people’s minds when I say this is Belial because anyone who has spoken to him on more than one occasion knows that he is not opposed, in any way, to having a good laugh, but I know a few other serious spirits who have also shown me that they too are not opposed to humor when the situation is fitting. I’ve been in downright foul moods before and had a spirit appear and do or say something that just made me bust up laughing, purposefully, because they were trying to get me to relax and calm down.

Ha! I love that! “Fuck this cock you devil bitch!”

Some spirits do seem to really like it when you give into your sexual nature and start saying things like that. It’s like all the more pleasurable when you are combining those human dirty talk urges with the act of fucking of a demon which is probably considered on the top 5 list of “most taboo and sinful things”. LOL

Now as for the whole, fake it until you make it thing, I have actually told some newer magicians to take on that mindset, some that I’ve mentored because they seemed to be failing in every other way possible and I told them don’t let it get to your head to the point of actually lying to everyone around you and being a poser, stay true to yourself but just pretend like you already have the success you want and this will put you in a positive mood by bringing about those good emotions that will surface truthfully later on when you DO finally achieve your goals, and that positive attitude, by pretending everything is falling into place right now, that attitude will act as a booster of encouragment and keep you going.

It’s one thing to be fake and actually lie to those around you, pretending to be some bad ass magician when you’re just a young adult going thru a wannabe vampire phase but if you approach it the right way, it can help and the few people I have told that advice to started ascending very rapidly and nicely and actually have real experiences they can share now, slowly working their way to where they want to be in this life, whereas before they had nothing but failures and let downs and were spiraling into a deep depression.

So there is a big difference between:

Fake it until you make it just enough to tell yourself, you WILL succeed, and you ARE on your way to having what you desire, enough to spawn constant positive encouragment within yourself, but remembering you really are still just a magician working their way up in this life and being humble and true to your friends

and

Fake it until you make it, lying about success you’ve never had, pretending to be some rich person with a good company president job, all powerful sorcerer that has killed 11 people and healed the blind like Jesus, related to famous celebrities and evil dark creepy masons from secret societies that are working to usher the antichrist into the world so don’t no one go messing with me or else my sacred ancient bloodline relatives will lay the wrath upon you as we come from a long line of royal vampires and sorcerer kings!

LOL, big difference there. And by the way, I almost did slip a fart out on accident during a ritual not too long ago and Belial told me, during the ritual, to Let it rip! And then he and Lilith started lauging at me so… But then again it depends on what the ritual is for.

I agree with all the above - humnour takes different forms, and one of them is to undermine the seriousness or reputation of another person, and if that’s aimed the wrong way during ritual… well, the result won’t be good. There’s a reason chaos mages often “banish with laughter”!

I think humor is something that can be used in an established connection, or within an established relationship with a spirit. That is because the line of introduction is passed and most of the formalities is done.

Humor does have it’s purposes, even for a spirit among their kind and together with humans. It releases tensions, anxiety or other things we might worry about. It is a part of getting to know eachother, learning boundaries for both spirit and us humans. You can use humor as comfort, if we’re sad or trapped in negative thinking.

There’s so many layers and definitions of “humor”, that it either makes you laugh, or cry. But sometimes, our spirits finds the right spot, and laugh with us.

I’ve evoked Gogo the Dodo before and projected into Toon Town, all part of a chaos magic operation to raise the level of “cartoon physics” in the world. Why so serious?

considering that the heart of all this spiritual matter is, in all actuallity, one great Divine Comedy, the Ultimate Joke, the Secret of Secrets, The Wisdom and True Knowledge…

since this is so funny, so beautifuly and sorrowly laughable, beyond description how funny this is…

maybe it would be wise for a sorcerer, mage, aspirant, witch or just a general non formed psychonaut, to steady oneself.

steady yourself. let’s experiment with this. let’s see how much energy can be retained through laughing less, to joke less… not to stop joking entirely, but to stop oneself and refrain from commenting and being funny… just to refine the humour.

i’ve noticed when i act serious, it is also more humorous, but in a more useful sense.

and maybe we should discern true humor from fucking around.

i believe that seeing life as funny is a good sign of intelligence.

my ultimate point is in fact a question of a kind…

if i could, just maybe, if i could refrain myself from joking, smiling, being funny and watching comedy…
could this be a way of retaining energy…
a way to experience Laughing with God more often?

hahaha ooooooo will i do this experiment…

o yes i will. i will try from now on, for at least 3 days to not engage into any humor, joke, laughing.
i will surely burst here and there, but the intention is ON!

i’m saving myself for Jeeeheeeesus!!

Humor, on a deeper level, is a way of dealing with the madness of the universe.

Or that’s my UPG anyhow.

Oops! Sorry! That’s “humour” to Lady Eva.

Yes, I’m Canadian so I didn’t understand either until you added the (u) as well! haha

I am a funny motherfucker.

so i have done the experiment

my effort was to be, or act DEAD SERIOUS for 3 days.

i have explained the experiment to few people who are dear to me, or with whom i have daily relationship, so they don’t think i’m mad at them.
some where laughing at me, as it is funny.

the result is immediate. first notable thing is that my girlfriend is attracted to me more then usual in a sensual way.
secondly, people and children i work with are taking me more seriously, which is great thing because my stress levels are reduced.

third thing i should point out is that smiling less outwardly evidently leeds to withdrawing energies from this world and attachments with people, giving me sense of greater space within myself - making me more comfortable in being alone and at peace.

i will go on with this further and post here about seriousness when i’ll have something of greater worth to tell.

now i recognize:

  • laughing as negating percieved reality
  • being angry as frustration in effort to correct percieved reality

and, in the middle of that, being dead serious - as holding myself tight, not succumbing to emotional and mental ejaculations - and looking deeper into the mysteries.

so sayeth Bahamuthat
Disciple of Martal

I’m with Raven in that humour can be a great tool for relaxation and for some spirits such as tricksters or jester spirits having the carefree attitude is necessary to making a good first impression. If you contact them with a serious face on they have a tendency to want to play jokes on you instead of play jokes with you.

o i do have fun with spirits, that’s for sure

Fascinating “n=1” experiment there!

I think there’s a lot to be said for this, especially (my personal bugbear) for modern parents who want to be their children’s best buddy, instead of their parent.

third thing i should point out is that smiling less outwardly evidently leeds to withdrawing energies from this world and attachments with people, giving me sense of greater space within myself - making me more comfortable in being alone and at peace.

Smiling in primates is, broadly speaking, a placating gesture when it’s done to be sociable and not when amused - one of the commentaries I’ve read a lot in sociological lit is that women are under social pressure to smile more than men, as a submissive act, and a boss or cop may smile to set you at ease with regards to the situation, and then withdraw that smile when he or she wants to rattle you.

Interesting that you found that there’s an internal aspect to this - like more of the “posture as dictator of mood” - like this stuff:
Dominant Body Postures Increase Circulating Testosterone, Decrease Stress Hormones.

now i recognize: - laughing as negating percieved reality - being angry as frustration in effort to correct percieved reality

and, in the middle of that, being dead serious - as holding myself tight, not succumbing to emotional and mental ejaculations - and looking deeper into the mysteries.

Solid gold, thanks!

[quote=“bahamuthat, post:12, topic:7605”]so i have done the experiment

That was very interesting to read. Humor is so much a part of my personality the thought of conducting a similar experiment myself is an intriguing thought.
