I once was fast tracked into knowing several truths about life and existence, that was harsh to handle, i kept thinking : whats better? Knowing the Truth even if it’s harsh or to stay in illusion?
I just kept pushing forward, stopping occasionally because of being shattered and pushing again,
Until i reached a point when it was unbearable,
There was no other way out besides Non Duality, or staying in illusion and acting like if i never knew,
At this same time, i have came to know the Story of Pan and felt resonance with Him,
Also, i came to know the Berber God which is Boujeloud,
Basically those look same, then i stumbled across a music called jajouka, i started listening while feeling devastated by the truths i have known,
Suddenly i was seing the black 3D instead of 2D. Back then it was first time i experience a deep meditative state
I was hearing the full Album which is about 45min, called : The Pipes Of Pan.
I later liked some musics of them more than some and found several albums, i picked one and was listening only to that for few days,
I then tapped Samadhi, it happened on its own.
Now i will talk about the music, and then i will add my personal experience with Boujeloud.
The story of Jajouka:
First, The tradition attracted international attention through Paul Bowles, Brion Gysin, William S. Burroughs, Brian Jones, and Ornette Coleman. Timothy Leary famously described the musicians as a 4000 year old rock and roll band. He and it was through this attention that they got famous.
In addition to the use of their music in several movies,
And their feat with The Rolling Stones in Continental Drift.
Ornette Coleman American jazz saxophonist and one of the pioneers of free jazz:
“The life of Jajouka cannot die. It is immortal.”
Brion Gysin : writer, painter, and artist who helped introduce Jajouka to the Beat Generation:
“I want to hear that music every day for the rest of my life.”
William S. Burroughs : American novelist and leading figure of the Beat Generation, known for experimental literature:
“The 4,000-year-old rock ’n’ roll band.”
Brian Jones : Founding member and multiinstrumentalist of the Rolling Stones, who recorded the musicians in Morocco in 1968:
“I don’t know if I possess the stamina to endure the incredible, constant strain of the festival.”
Bachir Attar Moroccan musician and leader of the Master Musicians of Jajouka, from a hereditary musical family:
“It is secret medicine music to heal human beings. It opens something up for people and this earth.”
“Jajouka music is the question, and it is the answer.”
Genesis P-Orridge : English musician, poet, and pioneering figure in industrial music, associated with Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV:
“The ancient music of Jajouka is as profound and spiraling as DNA. This is the raw genetic material of all sacred music.”
John Corigliano American composer and Pulitzer Prize winner known for his orchestral and film compositions:
“You can feel the reeds vibrating in your body.”
John Corigliano American composer and Pulitzer Prize winner:
“An exciting human communication unlike most of today’s music.”
Timothy Leary American psychologist, psychedelic researcher, and prominent counterculture figure:
“The 4,000-year-old rock ’n’ roll band.” ( shared quote )
The Shrine where it was played used to be destination of mentally ill people, they healed them through music. And through ‘Baraka’( blessing& power) associated with it.
The story is, a young shepherd named Attar he once rested in a cave while watching over his flock,
Attar was awakened by extraordinary music, Boujeloud ( the Goat Being ) described as Half man and Half Goat was playing the flute and it was unlike Attar has ever heard before,
Boujeloud offered to teach Attar the music with the condition that he should be secretive about this and not reveal the musical secrets to no one else, so he entered into agreement with him accepting condition that comes with this gift.
However, Attar broke the vow and shared the music, and when Boujeloud discovered the betrayal he demanded to be offered a bride from the village,
In one story, the villagers solved this by giving presenting him with aicha Kandicha, a women that would tease Boujeloud and dance with him but staying away from him, until being exhausted then he would just depart and abandon what he asked for.
This is carried in the later rituals of the group where they play music and a man wears goat skin and dances widely, chasing people hitting them with olive branches while they run from him,
In other stories, Boujloud in Moroccan tradition is related to fertility, Grace, spiritual blessing, emphasizing that the relationship with the being and the Group continued beyond the original encounter, with the village becoming custodian of the musical inheretence received from the supernatural being.
Also, Boujeloud is said to give the village Baraka ( spiritual power and grace ) before he goes back to the cave,
Once the Musician Bachir was asked by Brian Cullam about the fact they broke agreement with the being,
He answered : What do you know about Morocco ? Much Less about Jajouka, dont be smart with your psychology. We are not lawyers here. Our contract is with the mountains, we have repaid him many times with music.
My personal experience with this, besides the Samadhi,
Is i once listened to all Master Musicians of Jajouka music, all of them, many are in youtube by the way, my favorite being : Hanging Out in Jahjouka.
Then i was like: i cannot find similar online in the world, i cannot find the flute played in this way with the drums combination. I tried and failed, its like my taste was purely only what jajouka produced.
I kept trying mentally to think of if there is a way to make a music in similar style but it will be like a ‘new track’
I thought its just impossible. So i was satisfied of what was released, knowing that i will never hear similar and new.
Then one day when i layed down to sleep i started hearing music crystal clear played, literally like if someone is physically present and playing,
And it was exact same Jahjouka style, and a new track that i have never heard before with a new complexity, i was in awe through this.
And this made me 100% convinced they did encounter the being.
