I’ve been working on adding things to my new temple area and came across this floor mat. I was looking for a pentagram but saw this and am intrigued. I’ve Googled it to see if it is authentic or just something made up for one of the anime shows. The only images of it I’ve found have been for the floor mat.
Can anyone identify it?
PHOTO CREDIT: Shutterstock. The floor mat was found on Amazon but the image wasn’t so great. I saw it on Shutterstock and am using that photo.
I think it might be an angelic summoning circle but can’t be sure. The symbol in the centre bears a good resemblance to the seal for Och, the Olympic Spirit of the Sun from the Arbatel, but there are some differences. The name of Samael on the circumference and both Aries and Mars in the centre make me think it is a containment circle.
Containment. That brings up a good question. Is it normal for people today to evoke an entity and then contain or trap them in order to give a command that they want done? It just seems harsh to me. It would be like inviting someone your home just so you can lock them in the basement and then force them to clean the basement. I certainly wouldn’t make the mistake of going to your house anymore.
Stupid example, but am I off the mark on that? Should we be in protection circles at all times?
No. It is not common in modern times except if you are working in a traditional system like that of “Solomon”, and there are some mages that do. In that system the demon is constrained in the triangle and subdued through angel names, and the authority of God, and subjugated through threats if they don’t do the bidding of the magician.
@DarkestKnight
Sounds like something that would piss me off if I were a demon! I’d make a mental note to go after the mage as soon as I got free from the circle. Screw the angels, I’d take the mage out!
That actually rarely happens, from what I understand. You can evoke in the traditional manner and constrain them with threats and such, without suffering any “payback.” I think the whole thing is a myth and a self fulfilling prophecy in the same way as if you think demons are all out for your soul then that’s what you will get. They will meet your expectations of them.
When you complete the Abremelin Operation and receive the Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, the last part of the ritual has you binding the legions of Hell, including Lucifer, and making them swear to obey you. EA received his HGA and bound the demons, but they son’t seem to hold it against him now, when he evokes them using his own system.
I always try to remember that it is not the god names or the angels that constrain and bind the spirits, but the Eternal essence of the magician. As EA wrote in Evoking Eternity when he first evoked King Paimon, he constrained him by the names of God, and the demon laughed. It was only when EA got angry and channeled his Will into the binding, did the great king stop and take notice. Even though EA was evoking him “in the name of God,” it was EA’s own power that the demon respected, not the name itself.
