Is performing the LBRP safe?

Hello

I have been wanting to perform the LBRP to banish any negativity from around myself but I am feeling very concerned about it, very scared as well. Is it completely safe? Won’t I invoke any demonic forces? Won’t the Archangels do anything I wouldn’t like? Won’t I feel sick or bad?

Or should I do something else instead? Less ‘risky’? Or maybe I’m just overthinking it? I struggle with anxiety.

It is safe.

No, it won’t invoke any demonic forces.

The archangels are simply invoked to clear your space and to put up a boundary.

You might feel a little sick in the beginning as the LBRP is energy intensive and could overload your system until you get used to it.

I still have a real bad aftertaste from doing the LBRP and never intend to do it again. Maybe some people just have inherent currents that these entities don’t sit well with? Or maybe I was in such a dark and imbalanced place when I was doing it that I blame it for not protecting me when I needed protection from all the voices in my head? Not saying it is some absolute truth or I’m some authority on anything at all… and I think it did improve my basic visualization skills. But drawing those right-side-up pentagrams and calling the Angels, I just don’t feel like they were on my side… Maybe I was just too paranoid at the time or doing it wrong, but I’m much better off with other techniques now.

To expand on this my intuition tells me this thing - this is a magickal defense system that was created by mages but also a filter to ‘filter out’ people like me. It can work for you, but if you are one of the ones they are/were trying to ‘filter’ from having magickal power, it works against you. That is my current standing with it.

Also the first time I ever did the LBRP I had a dream about a gnome. He did not seem friendly to me, I tried to converse with it or gain some information. This gnome proceeded to start spinning in a circle and shrinking smaller and smaller into nothing at all. It was hiding something from me and not on my side I think.

It might generally be safe but it wasnt meant for banishing anything. Israel Regardie took a Hebrew bedtime prayer and changed the directions of the angels for the LBRP and added names to it.

It’s really for shining a light on you in the astral to further spirit communication, so it needs to followed by the Rosy Cross ritual.

It’s safe! Combining it with the Middle Pillar and Qabalistic Cross I found had a cleansing and grounding effect. At least it did for me.

Is anything safe? If you avoid everything dangerous, will you not still die in the end?

Won’t I invoke any demonic forces?

Only if you do so intentionally.

Won’t the Archangels do anything I wouldn’t like?

They won’t even interact with you if you don’t talk to them for the LBRP.

Won’t I feel sick or bad?

You might, it’s energetically intense.

There are much less energetically powerful ways of banishing, such as smudging or sprinkling salt water around or sprinkling certain herbs and sweeping them up with the intent to sweep up all negative energy… simple kitchen witch practices. LBRP is very, very well known, but it is certainly not the be all end all ritual that must be done by all.

That said, I typically do it on a daily basis. I would remind people who do it on a regular basis to also do the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram, which is just drawing the pentagrams the other way and instead of poofing energy out to clear your space, pulling energy into yourself to recharge yourself… it is not the only recharging ritual available, of course.

So I would do LIRP in the morning, LBRP when I begin magick work at night, then Middle Pillar. And Rose Cross if you want to diminish the whole “dropping a flare on yourself” effect in the astral.

Additionally I would remind people there is the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram! All of the fun of banishing from the compass corners, with none of the archangels. If you aren’t vibing with a particular ritual, there are so many different rituals as well as traditions. Golden Dawn but is not for everyone and that’s okay.

Anyway, I wouldn’t consider LBRP dangerous, but it does make you very visible to spirits, ironically, so I wouldn’t use it unless you’re planning to do entity work… there are much simpler banishing rituals that don’t have that impact on your astral self.

yes its one of the safest things out there. and one of the best. Just do it correctly and memorize it well.

its by far one of my favourite magical exercises out there. it is indeed great at banishing and cleansing the magician and also pretty much exercises magical skills such as energy manipulation Invocation, visualization etc. i implement it daily with my own changes.

So many people seem to like the LBRP, maybe I just need a group therapy session to reconvene with the angels or something? My intuition tells me they were originally created by Judeo/Christian mages to serve YHWH ( unverified UPG ). So then if they serve YHWH, and YHWH has a problem with you at the core ( people like me ), then they work against you maybe. I’m just throwing things out on a limb here, based on my own experiences.

So now assuming what I’ve spoken about my own experiences to be accurate. Let’s use a situation as an example. You’re a person who has a problem and need magickal protection. Every mainstream magickal system for a long time seemed to be proponents of the LBRP ( intentional by the powers that be by design? ). You turn to the LBRP for protection, and the angels who serve YHWH is actually your enemy and do not help you. You are now stranded and those you looked to for help are working against you as well? In this situation it would seem that the LBRP is definitely not safe for some people. Just speaking my own truth here ( nothing absolute for everyone that exists ).

Angels were not created by Christian mages, they’re much older than any religion. Also, in my opinion YHWH is not Javé, Javé is a thunder trickster god who was part of a pantheon but because of his pride he appropriated another pantheon so that they would serve him as the only god (including stealing universal power names like On/Om and Tetragrammaton itself, saying that these were his name’s, but they’re not)

That is a possibility, but how do you know these things as absolute truth? So many people present things as absolute truth when we are all having our own unique experiences here on this plane. And even if all these things you mention are true, that does not logically imply that the LBRP is safe for everyone.

For example, when I personally performed the LBRP, and called these Four Angels, I did not feel or sense the presence of Spirits that fit your description. If this is something that you feel personally and works for you, then power to you and that’s your reality. I value my own experience and observations on this mysterious Plane over everything else, including words from others about absolute truth.

I have a problem with weird intrusive thoughts and when I try to visualize something good, let’s say, just a person, I can’t control it fully and in my vizualization their face turns into idk some monster one and they stick their long tongue out at me, looking like a cartoon demon :sob: thats stupid but wouldn’t it invoke them either?

One more thing.

I don’t know if my relationship with YHWH is good. I don’t like him, he seems very evil in the old testament, calling himself a jealous God and such. But at the same time I know that the LBRP is about him protecting you as well (kind of?).

Is it safe for me to perform the ritual then? I like the Angels, Archangels and Jesus. It’s just YHWH that I believe might be the evil God.

This.

The four angels of the LBRP protected me from nothing at all in my time of deepest need.

The LBRP as Crowley described was designed to create a foundation known as the stone of the wise. From that foundation, other work within GD and later Thelemic ritual can be accomplished with great success.

It focuses on creating a column of light that connects the lower planes with the higher planes, almost like an energetic elevator that has four floors.

If its something you’re interested in but not sure about, try it once, see how you feel, and record the results.

That sounds more like a description of the middle pillar ritual, not the LBRP
