Is it appropriate to ask a spirit for a timeframe after you've cast your petition?

I’ve done a spell working and I wanted to know if it was appropriate to ask the spirit for a timeframe because I want to know when I will receive my results. I usually don’t but I just wanted to know if it’s OK.

Usually include that during the spell

I was told that wasn’t appropriate. I didn’t know that you could do that.
