which one you prefer for a beginner and what’s the difference between them?
ps. sorry for these basic questions
None, evoking is calling an entity before you in your presence, and invoking is calling an entity into you.
A beginner shouldn’t touch external forces until they can feel or understand their own energy and senses.
There is no right place to start but starting is the vital first step in learning how to do things. Developing your astral senses is essential to discern and experience entities. But experiencing the spirits also triggers your Astral Senses to awaken. Only you know where you are at in your progress. Moving forward is also essential.
I would recommend that you have a clear intent such as developing your astral senses and daring to begin with Evocation.
If you are looking for a teacher the spirits are best.
Learning by doing is essential especially for beginners.
I saw one of your recent post @zelhh about being scared or insecure of demons, I’d recommend working on that outlook first before trying to work with demonic entities. You might not get the results you expect with that underlying doubt, also it’s for your safety.
I am glad that you brought this up. The emotion of fear is dangerous for beginners only because it can throw everything off and cloud the mind. On the other hand if a strong emotion is harnessed and focused it can fuel the ritual. So in my personal opinion pushing through fear can be incredibly beneficial and in my experience “Demonic Divinities” really just have a bad reputation, just like Witches. (cue the dramatic thunder and lightening)
But yes I think that your concern is valid if there is an unfocused fear allowed to run amok during the Ritual of Invokation/evokation.
A meaning would refer evocation to the contact with “inferior” entities (in a natural or technical, not offensive way), invocation with superior ones; aside from that, I once read the advice to know Spirits by summoning them and afterwards proceed to invoke (internal sense, this time) those that the magician feels more close, or needed for Ascent.
which method should i use to feel their energy?
I am a ceremonial magician, and for beginners, traditional invocation is generally safer.
Contrary to popular LHP belief, Invocation is NOT possession. The point of invocation is to take on the traits of the spirit you are invoking to improve yourself. You would invoke Horus or the Archangel Michael for more courage, for example, or Thoth for wisdom.
Invocation, done right, only allows as much of the spirit to come into you as you are capable of handling. Look up the Golden Dawn practice of Assumption of Godforms, or Crowley’s Liber Resh, which are daily invocations.
Demons are traditionally evoked in ceremonial magick because it was assumed that one should strive to be more like the angels and gods than like the demons, and that invoking demons was dangerous.
As a beginner, be careful what you read because because religious demonolators, those who worship demons like the author S, Connolly, use the same words but define them completely differently. To a demonolator, invocation means casually inviting the demon over for tea, and evocation means putting a gun to its head and demanding it show up.
I have practiced traditional ceremonial Magick and non-traditional. The paradigm you describe is not the only one. The Demons are Ancient Gods who became classified as Demons because of the rise of Christianity. There is no evidence to suggest that the way you are recommending is safer for the beginner.
Invoking is calling upon a spirit to “borrow” their qualities and abilities
Evoking is asking for a spirit to come and show themselves in front of you and you can communicate with them
That’s what I read and how I see it
slide me your social medias, i wanna talk with u privately brobro
There are two ways people distinguish invocation from evocation.
More classically and traditionally invocation is a “call” to the entity to come of its own accord to serve the magician’s will while evocation is a more compulsory form of summoning, binding and commanding it. This is the frame of reference I use.
Sometimes you’ll see especially more eclectic or aquarian influenced occultists call any channeling type summoning an invocation and any more outward aimed one an evocation.
Invocation is much easier to get results with for a beginner. Choose your entities wisely and banish well before and after.
