How Does Anyone Petition Their Request To Spirit

I am looking for an appropriate way to ask my request to a spirit how did someone approach their petition to a spirit during enn meditation is this would be to hold into one’s mind or the request would be to ask at the end regardless whether the spirit’s presence can be felt or not?

Please I need someone’s suggestion concerning a right way to ask thanks
