Genders and nature of Succubi and Incubi

I’m a bit confused.

I have been reading up on these creatures and originally I thought succubi are female demons who have sex with men and incubi are male demons who have sex with women. But there are sources claiming that these demons are supposedly sexless and the “gender” is determined by how they handle energy, hence why they appear male or female. One argument for this is that succubus and incubus both originated as masculine nouns, therefore the demons are sexless. If that is the case, how did a succubus become the feminine form of an incubus?

Can anyone who know about or work with these entities clarify this?

There is an argument that spirits, in general, are genderless, or at best, adaptable to be the opposite sex as they see fit. But this isn’t limited to the opposites of gender, as we all know that sex comes in different flavors, kinks and attractions. As an energy current, sex and lust doesn’t differentiate genders at all, which makes it easier to believe that these entities are “without” a gender. I disagree that succubus and incubus are “sexless” beings, and let me try to dig deeper of why I think so:

Does genitals differentiate a male from a female? In human sense, it mostly does. But for entities like succubus and incubus it differentiate them with the ASPECT OF MALE AND FEMALE, which basically means that it’s in their energy current, rather than their genitals. And if we have to dig even deeper with this, we have to dissect the psychology of these spirits, which is tricky, because it can be very stereotypical and generalized.

As I see it, we can only separate the succubus and the incubus from an individual perspective. Both of them share similarities and differences in personalities, since they can be very caring, protective, dominant, submissive, emotional, light, dark, neutral, masculine and feminine. But that also makes each and everyone of them unique in their own ways. The creative aspect is the only thing that do separate them from one another, which I have experienced myself. A succubus within the aspect of female, and as an aspect of that particular current, they can create and procreate life, which means they can be pregnant.

If both “originated” as masculine nouns, then who, or what, created them? If the female aspect represent creation and birth, it doesn’t make sense to my own experiences of what they’re capable of.

So, to answer the question:
They have a GENDER IDENTITY, not necessarily decided by their physical manifestations, but by their individual characteristics of their gender aspects of either masculinity or femininity.

That is my thoughts of it, through several years of experiences.

Thank you for the insight, this answers my questions well.

In my experience the succubus (or indeed incubus) is gender neutral. They have the ability to mine the human mind and suggest shapes and forms which cause sexual arousal, depending on the individual. They each have a unique personality type, and will respond to the call/intent of the human. I suspect they are elemental in nature - in my case air/fire (or possibly water/fire).
