Doestn´t really matter if it´s sumerian mythology really. Spirits are real but the mythology is different matter. In essence the book is a mixture of different currents that don´t really mix well. Great old ones are just as real as lilith or belial but due to their energetic nature, they seem more ``weak´´. Not the right word but whatever
