Greetings, Ever clear is illegal here in the UK and buying from the US is out because of the shipping costs. Can any one suggest an alternative alcohol?
If you take a “cheap” vodka (cheaper, but also to have no fillers nor additives of flavors, like there is in Gin)… you can go to butchers or grocery/fish and get a chunk of dry ice… get a bowl and pour alcohol into (not more than half or so to give room for “boil-froth”)… and put chunks of dry ice in…
"evaporates" the water... once all the "fog" is gone.. most of water gone, thus mostly all alcohol (thus don't use too much to light up.. I'd pour back into the bottle it came from- keep it capped.. else "evaporate" the alcohol).. <<resulting liquid is basically like what Everclear is>>
pour a small bit and light and see how it works… then can tell how much use…
try that(?) luck
You can use medical alcohol (rubbing alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, etc.) that you would find in the drug/pharmacy. You can also use “spirit” alcohol, which is what they used to burn in spirit lamps. Since you aren’t drinking it, it all burns the same.

Thank you for the advice, I went to a camping store and got some spirit oil so now I am ready to start scrying.
Could something like lighter fluid be used, like the kind used for Zippo style lighters? I think the only thing to add to supplies would be a lid for the bowl to smother out the flames when finished scrying.
Well Sukujin, I use shellite. You can pick up 4 litres at Bunnings for about $20 and that will last you ages. It’s also called Naptha too and I believe it’s exactly the same stuff in Zippo lighters, only cheaper.
In the video the fire lasted only a short while. Does this 'Shellite" last very long?
The shellite lasts a little longer, but not much, I’ll have watch the video again. It’s a good clean burning fuel that burns longer than metho. It’s used in some types of lamps and burn for quite a while, but they’re burned more efficiently in the lamps as opposed to setting a bowl of the stuff on fire. Probably the best stuff to use in OZ, but please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m open to new things.
Methylated spirits (the fuel alcohol mentioned above) are incredibly cheap, and they give a mellow, cool flame. I would use them above most other fluids. They’re also safer, as they’re not oily and don’t burn hot - much easier to extinguish if there’s a problem.
As far as comparing Australia to US, Everclear is just a drinkable version of methylated spirits - nothing has been added to make it toxic. So if you want to burn alcohol, use the spirits.
yeah I bought the shellite today and gave it a test run in a steel bowl. Flames flew up about 40cm and almost singed my eyebrows, set off the smoke detector and burnt my match finger… fuck me!
Eveclear is just ethyl alcohol. There is no such thing as a drinkable methylated spirits i.e. they by definition contain methanol which is toxic, period, and can leave you blind, in a coma, or kill you in very small amounts i.e. 5 - 15ml.
Sorry. To be clear, I was saying for the purposes of fire scrying, Everclear is a drinkable version of methylated spirits. From what I gather, EA talks about burning Everclear (which is concentrated alcohol). So, I was essentially saying “you can burn methylated spirits the same way as Everclear, you just can’t drink them”.
But from a purely chemical standpoint, you are correct - they are not the same thing, and methylated spirits are more harmful to your body, and they are deliberately made so to prevent people from drinking them.

Can’t say I would recommend Shellite. both times I have used it, it just released a noxious vapour thats probably too dangerous to inhale for too long. Since I cant get ever clear, I think I’ll just go straight to the scrying mirror.
Brutus - read the thread! haha. Seriously though, get methylated spirits, they will be available if you look for them - camping stores, hardware stores, maybe even the grocery/department store in one of those sections.

So no black smoke or noxious smell?
Correct. It’s just alcohol, it burns with a nice clean flame.
Thanks Redcircle, I’ll grab some and give it a go.
Tired of using alcohol
thanx for the tip Red
