Experiences of pathworking with poor imagination

I’d like to hear the experiences of fellow magicians with poor or non-existant imagination when it comes to pathworking.

For a few years now we’ve seen more revelation about pathworking magick and many seem to enjoy working this way. For instance there are pretty good feedback scattered on this forum about Lucifer and the Hidden Demons and Goetia Pathworking.

For me personally pathworking magick is difficult and unpleasant, because it doesn’t feel like I am doing anything. I don’t have the imagination to conjure vivid sceneries so everything feels extremely bland, meh. Whatever basically. At least with an incantation I can vibrate words, chant, make gestures and I actually feel like I am commanding.

However it doesn’t mean I never perform pathworking magick or that I do not get results. That’s not the subject and I’m already aware of what the authors wrote in their books regarding poor imagination. It’s just that I don’t enjoy much the process, and this is what I’d like to improve, not the ritual outcomes.

I’m curious about how people in a similar position tackle this problem. It’s not practical to completely shut off a form of magick.

How do you approach this? What’s your experience like, despite the poor imagination?

Working in vision is pretty blah for me too but it doesn’t really bother me. I just try to emphasize bringing the senses in as much as I can and it seems to work for me. For example, one of the images for Jareth Tempest’s Raziel pathworking is “in a dark cave” so when I visualize that initial image, I will try to feel what it’s like running my hand along the cave wall, even though that isn’t part of the pathworking, and that helps me to bring mote life to it. It’s still pretty 2D but I get results.

Magick isn’t about visuals; it’s all about intention and willpower. However, if you want to improve your ability to conjure mental images in your mind, there are some spirits out there that can help you achieve that goal. An excellent choice is King Paimon.

This is an important part that people need to learn about visualisation.

Most of pathworking/meditation/trance travel guide are use to trigger a feeling, more than an actual visual.

When you use a “connect to the air element” meditation and the person tells you to “imagine yourself being in a meadow” it’s just a shortcut to bring you a memory that will trigger an internal response to the concept of “air” (spring, feeling youthful….)
