Dead name?

So I tried some forum searches. I don’t know why but I feel stupid for asking this.

I am reading the necromancer by Connor Kendall and it mentions “your dead name”

My two questions are what are dead names and how do you know what your’s is if you already have one, I’m honestly not knowledgeable on the premise of what a “dead name” is completely. Thanks! And I know I just literally posted but yeah.

I think it refers to as…your birth name, that you don’t go by anymore for reasons of abusive family, or transgender person changing name…the dead name is the original name the person used to have and they chose a new one

Your dead name is a name the gods of death give to you when you go through the process in the book. There is a journal of a former member of the forum who worked through the book, and he talks about it:

Oh ok see that’s what I thought but yeah. Thanks!

I’m actually curious about this subject as well.

What’s the difference between a dead name and a true name?
