Consecration of magick tools?

So far haven’t seen much information on this. Is it really a requirement to consecrate absolutely every tool used in magick before being used for general black magick LHP? Tools like pendulums and scrying mirrors, and even incense? For example - buying a scrying mirror from Amazon…? Or is consecration more of a Pagan tradition and other systems? What do you think @DarkestKnight

Others can post their opinions also.

Thanks

Yes, you are supposed to clean and consecrate your tools in ceremonial magick.

It is what sets them apart from ordinary objects, and imbues them with life.

You first cleanse them to remove any dirty, stagnant, or negative energy that is clinging to them, and then you fill them with whatever energy is required to fulfil your Will.

In EA’s book Evoking Eternity, for example, you consecrate your altar and tools every time you perform the Invocation of Omnipotence.

And in WoD, you consecrate your tools to the Powers of Darkness.

In demonoaltry, you consecrate and dedicate your tools to specific demons, or generally to the demonic.

You can choose to do a general consecration, like that in Works of Darkness, and Evoking Eternity, or a specific consecration like in the Golden Dawn where you create and consecrate a wand dedicated to the elements.

Pendulums, and scrying tools definitely should be consecrated before use. This increases their accuracy as well as preventing any unwanted attachments. Incense, however, does not need to be, since it is usually chosen and burned for its specific properties.

Scrying mirrors are usually consecrated to the Moon, the planetary body of magick and prophecy, or a specific spirit who specialises in vision, like the archangel Gabriel, or the demon Vassago or Astaroth.

I would not say every tool as not every object in a ritual is going to be used reptivitely in others. But I would recommend it for tools you use in multiple ones just to keep things tidy. For example, if you are using a knife to cut something just for one ritual, consecration would not be necessary in my eyes. However, if you are going to use that same knife to cut things in many different rituals, I would recommend consecrating it.

Hiya OP! As has been stated, consecration serves to differentiate tools from base objects by implanting charge and functionality not present or dormant within the form of the tool. When you get skilled at that, you can draw out the innate charges or reprogram the energetic qualities of an object without consecrating it, but just by using it in a magical context.

I’ll have to learn how to consecrate. Hopefully it won"t require tons of work. I’m no longer following the religious approach of demonolatry. Only the “general” LHP, if that’s what the term is called.

The basic method is to fill yourself with energy, and then funnel that into the object through your hands until you feel it is “full.”

Edit to add: Then you seal it in, usually by tracing a symbol like an even armed cross or a pentagram over it and making a declaration.

Kinda like fusing myself and energy to the particular tool, basically. In my case, it would be the scrying mirror and possibly a pendulum if I choose to obtain one. I think that’s all I’ll need. The incense and candles, no consecration needed from what I understood. A knife as @Dralukmun pointed out wouldn’t either for blood offerings. Hopefully these steps are explained more in depth in EE and in WoD. Consecrating the mirror facing the moon around my area would be kinda difficult unless you were referring it metaphorically.

I appreciate your responses

Pardon me. I had to repost due to an error.

The mirror doesn’t have to face the moon. Essentially, you draw the planetary seal for Luna on the back, and leave it to charge in the moonlight, preferably during a full moon. That’s it.

However, that is just one way to do things. There are many.

There is a general consecration given in both WoD and EE, so you’re covered .

No, you don’t have to consecrate candles. The only time you would need to do so is if you are doing a candle spell.

Good to know there are several ways. I’ve honestly never heard of the Luna seal lol so I’ll have to try an alternative.

Last question on this thread: The mirror only has to be consecrated once? Or consecrated again before summoning another spirit in the mirrror?

Just once.

Generally, your tools are consecrated once before use, and then essentially re-consecrated every time you use them in ritual.

The only time you may have to repeat a full consecration is if the tool has been contaminated.

This isn’t really a question but in EE and WoD I’ll be expecting EA to have two methods of consecrating. Most likely based on his evolution in his experience in the craft. I wonder which book was released first.

WoD by your description of it sounds a bit simpler considering I’ll perform evocations more than invocations. I’ll check both out though, can’t wait. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes. Consecrate your blade. I made a dagger and dedicated it to Azazel. It is used every time I want to offer a drop of blood (to which ever Spirit). By using this blade to get my blood I at the same time, every time, offer a small amount of blood to Azazel.
Two birds one stone.

Works of Darkness came first.

The order of original release of EA’s work is Kingdoms of Flame, Works of Darkness, Baneful Magick, Evoking Eternity, Questing After Visions, Ipsissimus, and the Book of Azazel.
