Is it paradoxical? Can one summon spirits and also be a follower of Jesus Christ?
The Bible is adamant against magick but one could wonder if Moses and Jesus performed it and whether the Holy Mass is a magical rite.
Italian hermeticist Giuliano Kremmerz told his Christian readers to not be afraid, because he was gonna exposing the same magick of religiously respected occultists. And indeed many books: The Magus, Lemegeton etc “contain” a christian magick.
Of course. In fact, traditional ceremonial magick has a lot of Christian overtones and many members of the clergy practiced.
John Dee spent most of his time praying.
Technically, it’s against black magic.
But to answer the question, yes, you can be both. There are plenty of practitioners who are Christians.
Yep there are some on this forum
Once you become an occultist you’ll probably cease being a Christian pretty quickly once you are able to see the inconsistencies within that religion. Ask yourself, how does Christianity feel to me? If you are feeling lots of guilt, shame and fear you’re not alone. I couldn’t take the burden of the what I was expected to do and what things I had to refrain from. I am a former Christian now. I was Christian for 30yrs before this. So far so good. I’m doing much better now.
Christianity comes in many different forms. Whether or not they are US evangelists or something else, the opinion is usually that magick is evil unless you involve jesus or god (or saints if you are catholic). Some are a little more liberal in their views than others.
I would say, look at the more traditional catholic rites for the main holidays. You hardly can’t get more “ceremonial magick” than that. I was told that, despite the catholic church not supporting the theory of reincarnation, the Last Rite is designed to link a soul and make sure they get reborn in a catholic environment.
You can also look at all the snake-charmers and miracle healers. Whether or not they are frauds, their practice still has an occult design.
…or the real shit. Like in a lot of places in Mexico, Haiti etc. Where catholicism/ christianity was mainly just the language in which they practice their old ways. Just to put their western overlords at ease ^^
A lot of those practices are still very much alive today.
Hello. You can be a wizard and a Christian, but you cannot be a witch and be a Christian. There is such a thing as Christian Kabbalah, and in the bible there are ancient spells (Psalms) that every Christian is free to use.
All those grimoires that influenced/defined western magick were written by christians.
I personally consider Christianity to be part of occultism.
Praying to be heard by your Deity? That sounds like magic to me.
Doing rituals where the bread and the wine are considered parts of the body of some ancient deity to receive mercy? That sounds like magick to me.
Burning the players and the crosses to produces ashes to paint the sigil of the main Deity on the forehead of the others practitioners? That sounds like magick to me.
Setting an altar with the figures of different entities, filled with candles and petition players, photos, etc. to contact the spirits or receive guidance? That sounds like magick to me.
Spreading water blessed by the main Deity to banish evil spirits? That sounds like magick to me.
I even know cases of Christian witches that occupy verses of the bible to curse or cast spells.
No.
you can’t serve 2 masters . 1 Corinthians 10-21
Yes but being an occultist does mean you are on the LHP.
The difference between LHP and RHP is not that LHP practice dark arts and RHP don’t. The difference is the objective. On the RHP you seek to become one with the gods while on the LHP you seek to become as the gods are.
Christian magick can therefore not achieve self-deification because one of the first step on the path to self-deification is awareness of the beast within also known as the shadow. That’s why the practitioners on the LHP prefers to work with dark gods and demons because they represents the shadow.
Masillio Ficino, Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa, Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola, Abbot Trithemius, etc.
Congruism, a theological set of beliefs. It is said to be " the death of Christianity "
Yes and no. Technically speaking, classical occultism, of as I’ve understood it, is very Christian. Despite this, one technically shouldn’t be practicing anyway. I suppose as long as you stick with Magick that invokes the Abrahamic God, Jesus, and angels, you’ll be fine. That leaves you with tons of potential material.
I am in full agreement and was about to post something similar. The psalms for example is used by many Christians to curse people and do other forms of occult work get a job, money etc.
Also notice how Christians use parts of the bible and theology in general to justify all kinds of atrocities and heinous acts.
The kicker is they believe they are engaging in righteous acts that are deemed wholesome by Jesus Christ. Laughable to say the least.
For damn sure most do not think they share many commonalities with occult practitioners. Luckily where I’m from there is a phrase that says “No one is as evil as a Christian” so a lot of people don’t view them in a positive light. However, that hasn’t translated to occultism (of the flavors mostly being discussed here as being seen as something good.
Well i noticed that people can be occultist and christian… But a huge part of their opinion will be biased.
There’s a French Magick Youtuber who is a solid magician, he has the knowledge, the techiques… But when people who follow him ask “What do you think about pagan gods” he answers “you can work with them but you have to recognize that God (Yahweh) is the only god”
I mean wtf?!?
Plus when you know about Mesopotamian myths, syncretism… It feels HARD to me to be an Hard Christians.
I think it’s the mechanism of recognizing Jehovah (Bob) is the prime dude the rest act in service of the big ol’ Bob.
Apart from this, I’ve never understood why so many christians hold the old testament and Bob The Builder in such high regard. Even in the most revised and strictly churchy version of the new testament. It’s pretty clear to me Josh C. meant to break from the old ways of the region and speaks of a different god.
But that’s a discussion for another time and another thread, probably ^^.
So clearly not according to their Book.
It is even encouraged to denounce occult practices and destroy them, which is what they have always done anyway.
Most are not interested in this, and it terrifies them because they have no knowledge on the subject.
