Asking The Gods/Goddesses/Demons for help

I learned about some neat things demons can do in The Book of Azazel and have been considering asking for their help in their respective forte, but I have never evoked anything or anyone before. I also wanted to ask for someone/something more powerful than I to help boost my magic to help my dad get over an unknown illness that has had him almost bedridden. I guess I am looking for any advice anyone has about the best way to respectfully start communicating with entities.
