Do you mean Azazel? Azael is one of his Biblical names.

I’ve been told by the guy who did my reading that he is a different being to Azazel.
From his website:
While I originally suspected Azael and Azazel to be one and the same as most authorities merge the two (albeit with little to no logical or gnostic support), it became immediately clear that the two were different entities once Azael manifested.

That might be his UPG, but it is not factually accurate. Azael is an alternate spelling of Azazel which came about due to the way the original biblical Hebrew and Aramaic were translated. It has nothing to do with “Gnostic support,” whatever that means, but linguistics.
Now, with that being said, it is possible that an egregore of Azael has been created over the centuries as a being separate from that of Azazel, in a similar way to how occultists and worshippers have created their own version of Lucifer, one completely separate from his historical origins as a very minor Greek god.
Have you tried creating a sigil for Azael? You can use the Rose Cross sigil generator from the Golden Dawn which is easily found online. Just trace the name over the generator to create the sigil. Then use it to call him.
The Gallery of Magick (GOM) system isn’t really set up for using sigils other than their own proprietary ones but you should be able to adapt the rituals in Gordon Winterfield’s Demons of Magick for it. I would leave out the ruling angels though since you have no information on which would have authority over him.

Thanks. In your personal gnosis do you believe Azael and Azazel to be the same entity? I was told this path reading about half a year ago but I have not done any practice in rituals for years, but now I feel drawn to it again.

Personally, yes, I think they are the same entity, though it is possible that Azael could be a different aspect of the being known as Azazel, in the same way that the Enochian Angel Arzel is believed to be an aspect of the archangel Raziel.
Think of it sort of like a nickname. Your parents call you Robert, but your friends call you Bob because you show each of them different parts, or aspects, of yourself. You wouldn’t discuss your sex life with your parents, for example, but that aspect of you would be open to your best friend.

Ok, well I will interpret is as Azazel wants to be my patron as the common consensus is that they’re both the same entity.

Don’t take anyone’s opinion on it. Create a sigil and find out for yourself. I could be wrong, your reader could be wrong. Maybe Azael isn’t really Azazel but the Flying Spaghetti Monster (blessed be his noodley appendage!) in disguise.
