In the spring of 2020, I got E.A.’s Mastering Evocation video course. On my very first evocation attempt (about 2 weeks into the course) I could clearly see the spirit, but I couldn’t hear anything. I wasn’t worried that I couldn’t hear the spirit, it was my first attempt after all, but five and a half years later, and my clairaudience is not much better.
Most occultists are familiar with the word “aphantasia”, put simply, the lack of the ability to form images in the mind, or the lack of a minds eye. This condition naturally has a negative effect on the ability to see spirits. If you can’t train your visual imagination, you can’t develop your ability to see spirits. What I never heard of until yesterday is a condition called anendophasia, the lack of an inner monologue.
I’ve never had an inner monologue, but until a couple of days ago, I thought that was normal. Whenever people spoke about their inner voice, I always thought they were speaking metaphorically. It turns out they were speaking literally. Now, I can create inner sounds, but it takes deliberate effort. It’s just that I don’t think with any inner monologue. Anendophasia affects between 5 and 10% of the world’s population.
No matter what I tried to develop clairaudience, whether chakra meditation, third eye meditation, or just evoking spirits and asking questions, it didn’t help, but now I know why. I need to develop my ability to hear inner sounds. Sounds obvious, when it’s spelled out, but it never occurred to me
Related to anendophasia, is Anauralia, defined as the lack of inner sound, as opposed to inner monologue. For our purposes as occultists, this is just overcomplicating matters. Anendophasia or anauralia, it’s rare, but if you’re like me, struggling with clairaudience no matter what technique you try, this might be an avenue to explore.
