This isn’t nearly talked enough about in my opinion. But I’m sick of hearing it.
Magick is an art form above all things. We as humans are all capable of Magick as it is our built in gift. Magick is the manipulation and change of energy through intention; it’s not a cheap party trick for your amusement.
Like any art, it must be practiced and refined through a long period of time. Some may take months, and some may take years. But all art must be treated this way.
You aren’t going to sit down and meditate for 5 minutes and have every spirit in the psuedomonarchia daemonium bow to you. You need to learn and grow like everyone else.
I’ve had people ask me for absurd things to say the least, and it all boils down to laziness and not wanting to practice your own art. I’m sick of people assuming that a skilled magician refined by years of practice can just hand you magick in a bottle and boom you’re at their level. That’s just now how it works.
Furthermore, if you can’t take criticism straight to your face because your ego is too large, then you need to kill that off before your next channeling session. An unkempt ego leads to numerous problems in Magick such as a loss of words during rituals and impatience/lack of respect for the work.
Sometimes you need to be told what you’re doing wrong and when you’re crossing boundaries to understand and grow.
The difference is split between those who change themselves to grow, and those who are too stubborn and self mighty.
One time I impeded on another’s space, and was told to “grow a fucking spine” and that is exactly what I needed to be set straight. I grew that spine and now I understand what I actually want and which philosophy I truly paraphrase. From there I became more aware of what it was to be Left Handed, and I began following closer to the original principles. Now I’m much happier in life and truly understand how I want to live. All I needed was that punch in the face.
You are responsible for your own growth and your own ego.
I will restate this: Magick cannot be handed to you.
You have to practice and be willing to learn. If you have nothing to add to the conversation then sit and watch the dialogue.
I’ve learned an insane amount on this forum just by being an observer and watching the more experienced help the newer members.
For newer members I will say this:
If you do not know something, please just ask. There are numerous people here that will help you with anything, myself included, but you need to just ask. Do not think that because you read a page out of Grimoire that you understand more Magick than anyone else. That is your ego and it is one of the most dangerous things to let dictate your emotions and thoughts towards asking for help and growing. You aren’t alone in this journey, and no one wants to see you hurt yourself by consistent mis-practice.
No one can hand you your magickal ability. You must research, learn, and practice. It is a journey not a 20 minute lecture for a reason.
