I live in a country that is very non-religious. At our last census, about half of the population were in the atheist/agnostic category.
Many people ticking boxes of a religion simply tick the box of the religion that their parents told them they were in childhood, despite them never having practiced it or particularly believing in it.
Most people here identifying as religious don’t practice or engage with the religion.
Sure we have a few creepy fundamentalist/extremist churches etc, but on the whole this is a very non religious society (which to be honest I am glad about).
Despite this, I consider it not prudent to tell anyone about my practices, for two main reasons:
- People would think me delusional, and
2). People would think me delusional
I realise that this is technically one reason, but its such a big reason I figured it was worth mentioning twice (bonus points to anyone who recognises that reference)
